DescriptionThe Fishers Police Department is accepting applications for the position of patrol officer. This position aims to provide ongoing police services to the citizens within the city limits of Fishers, Indiana. The role is complex and requires the officer to make decisions, take action, and perform processes frequently under extreme stress. The officer responds to dispatch calls and patrols the general area while performing traffic enforcement duties.
The officer also fulfills administrative and judicial functions and attends all training functions as directed by a superior officer.
- Prepares reports – maintains records of activities; writes narrative reports; keeps data logs; ensures secure maintenance of records.
- Maintains operational records – collects job‑relevant data and compiles information in an organized fashion according to department procedures.
- Uses computers – enters data into computer; utilizes computer software; retrieves information stored in computer format.
- Conducts investigation of criminal activity – gathers facts, draws conclusions, and analyzes information relevant to incidents of criminal activity.
- Collects/searches for evidence at crime scenes – gathers and preserves evidence; secures crime scenes and detains witnesses.
- Conducts surveillance operations – observes activities of criminal suspects in an open or surreptitious and secretive manner.
- Documents crime scenes – sketches, photographs, records audio, or writes observations relevant to crime scenes.
- Testifies in court – consults with attorneys and orally presents information during court hearings.
- Interviews witnesses and suspects – questions members of the public about events surrounding criminal activity.
- Operates vehicle under emergency conditions – drives department‑issued motor vehicle under adverse or emergency conditions.
- Makes arrests – takes legal control of criminal suspects; may exercise reasonable force to control resistant suspects.
- Serves warrants – presents legal papers to members of the public.
- Handles hostile contacts – responds to angry and argumentative members of the public while complying with department regulations; may exert reasonable force.
- Pursues fleeing suspects – chases and subdues suspects who flee; may run or operate a vehicle in an emergency manner.
- Reports to emergency scenes – responds to dispatch or public calls and provides emergency services as required.
- Performs duties related to traffic enforcement – enforces vehicle traffic regulations; observes traffic conditions and issues citations for infractions.
- Operates firearms – qualifies with department‑issued firearms; maintains weapon and utilizes firearm according to department regulations.
- Answers media questions – meets with members of the press and answers questions when ordered by superior officers.
- Interacts with the public – meets members of the public; attends public meetings; responds to questions and complaints.
- Maintains liaisons with other agencies – meets with representatives of other agencies to share information and coordinate activities.
- Utilizes police radio – uses department radio to communicate with dispatch and other department members.
- Applies emergency first aid – provides life‑saving first aid or other emergency medical operations to injured individuals awaiting additional assistance.
- Maintains personal appearance – maintains personal grooming and dress according to department regulations.
- Communicates with other members of department – attends meetings, works well with others, and communicates with other officers.
- Attends training sessions – attends lectures, classes, and other training experiences as required by department regulations.
- Attends work – arrives for duty in a punctual and work‑ready fashion.
- Maintains equipment – ensures that equipment needed to perform the job is clean and operational.
- Accepts supervision – works cooperatively with higher‑ranked members, accepts direction, and follows orders.
- Participates in department meetings – attends meetings, listens, and makes helpful, task‑oriented contributions.
