Overview

This Produce Lead role combines leadership development with day‑to‑day impact. As a Department Lead, you’ll help guide your department by supporting teammates, reinforcing standards, and delivering great customer experiences. Responsibilities
  • Provides direction related to operations, processes, and conditions of the area.
  • Plans, guides, and empowers team members in the day‑to‑day operation of the department.
  • Sets an example for those in the department by modeling exceptional customer experience.
  • Helps achieve department goals and influences peers to create a continued winning strategy.
  • Engages peers to provide the best possible shopping experience for customers, including an exceptional checkout experience.
  • Communicates with team members and assigns daily work tasks.
  • Mentors and coaches team members to ensure customer service and sales goals are exceeded, the area is maintained to Meijer standards, and staff complete required trainings.
  • Supports training of new team members and cross‑training of high‑potential talent, providing peer coaching on job responsibilities and standards to positively impact productivity.
  • Collaborates with leadership on department schedule writing to focus on team member engagement, improving customer service, store sales and profitability.
  • Ensures product freshness by closely monitoring execution of rotation and dating policies.
  • Guides the team in compliance with food safety standards and regulations and works in a safe manner aligning to 200% accountability.
  • Leads team members to ensure ordering, receiving, stocking, pricing, and product display are completed, where applicable.
  • Actively creates an environment that supports Meijer culture, including valuing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
  • Operates a register and handles cash when needed.
  • Operates powered equipment, where applicable.
  • Participates in period‑end inventories, where applicable, to help achieve goals.
  • May be required to act in Lead capacity in other departments throughout the store.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Retail or other customer‑service experience preferred.
  • Creative thinking skills.

  • Physical capability to lift, carry, push, pull, bend, and twist while handling product.
  • Experience executing plans.
  • Positive influence to create a strong team environment.
