Deputy Assessor/Sales Disclosures

M-F 8am to 4pm

Incumbent serves as Deputy Assessor/Sales Disclosures for the Owen County Assessor's Office, responsible for maintaining sales disclosure records, performing field work functions, and assisting the public.

DUTIES:

Maintains sales disclosure records. Records and balances monies charged for sales disclosure and reconciles with Auditor's office.

Performs field work and reports, assuring accuracy on all property records cards and logs property sales transactions. Visits sales disclosures, new construction, and demolition projects in the field.

Assists taxpayers with assessment paperwork, including reviewing and maintaining submitted sales disclosures.

Answers telephone and greets office visitors, providing information and assistance, responding to inquiries, and/or directing callers to appropriate individual or department.

Assists Assessor with duties, as needed. Performs related duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND DIFFICULTY OF WORK:

High school diploma or GED.

Possession of and ability to maintain Indiana Level I and II Assessor/Appraiser certifications.

Thorough knowledge of Indiana tax law, real estate assessment/appraisal procedures and proper filing of tax forms, ability to read and understand legal codes and apply Indiana real property assessment guidelines and ability to apply such knowledge to a variety of interrelated processes, tasks, and operations.

Practical knowledge of basic filing systems and ability to create and maintain department files/records.

Working knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling, and punctuation, and ability to complete department forms and prepare correspondence and written reports.

Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computer, calculator, copier, vehicle, and telephone.

Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities.

Ability to competently serve the public with diplomacy and respect, including occasional encounters with difficult/irate individuals.

Ability to comply with all employer and department policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug‑free workplace, and personal conduct.

Ability to provide public access to, or maintain confidentiality of, department records and information according to State requirements.

Ability to understand, memorize, retain, and carry out oral and written instructions and present findings in oral or written form.

Ability to compute/calculate arithmetic operations and determine assessments and analyze/evaluate data.

Ability to work alone with minimum supervision and with others in a team environment.

Ability to work on several tasks at the same time, rapidly for long periods, often under time pressure and amidst frequent distractions and interruptions.

Ability to establish priorities, plan and layout assigned work projects, and read/interpret detailed prints, sketches, layouts, specifications, and maps.

Ability to apply knowledge of people/locations.

Ability to occasionally work extended hours and travel out of town for conferences or training, sometimes overnight.

Possession of a valid driver's license and a demonstrated safe driving record.

RESPONSIBILITY:
