Job DescriptionDetailed Statement of Duties and Responsibilities
:
- Responsible for monthly reconciliations of various accounts including those from affiliates to be reviewed and approved by the assistant comptroller.
- Responsible for the submission of monthly state mandated interfaces in the state comptroller system.
- Responsible for the preparation of various external reports
- Responsible for reconciling tuition cash receipts and preparing transfer of same to the Commonwealth.
- Responsible for the interfacing and reconciliation of payroll and fringe benefits to the general ledger system.
- Assist in the preparation, review and reconciliation of feed transactions from internal and external modules to the Finance modules
- Responsible for processing of various federal drawdown requests and verifying subsequent receipt.
- Assist the Staff Accountant to set up Banner account structure inclusive of detail codes etc.
- Assist in the quarterly, interim and year end closing procedures and preparation of financial statements for the University, the Fitchburg State University Foundation and the FSU Foundation Supporting Organization;
- Responsible for procedures necessary to close the year end processes, including all related reconciliations and reviews.
- Assist in the annual audit of the University, Foundation and Supporting Organization. Including assisting in the preparation of the notes to the financial statement, schedules, retrieval of documents, investigation, report generation and answering questions.
- Responsible for back up of various accounting functions as needed.
- Assist with various federal and state reporting for all subsidiaries
- Assist and advise students, faculty and administrators, regarding the Finance Office policies and procedures.
- Performs related duties consistent with the Accountant classification.
Qualifications Required at Hire
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
- Knowledge of accounting databases
- Knowledge of computer programs including word processing, spreadsheets and accounting software
- Ability to maintain harmonious working relationships with the public & members of the college community
- Ability to express self in written and verbal communication
- Ability to follow written and oral instruction
- Ability to gather information and resolve problems using computer or verbal inquiry
- Ability prepare and maintain accurate records
- Ability to prepare accurate reports
- Ability to set priorities and work independently to assigned complete assigned tasks
- Ability to learn and follow specific guidelines and policies when preparing work
- Ability to perform above duties with or without reasonable accommodation
Qualifications Acquired on Job
Knowledge of:
- General ledger accounting, including the FSU and FSU Foundation's accounting structure and financial statements.
- Database software systems and related report writing software.
- Knowledge of laws, policies, rules, regulations, procedures and guidelines governing accounting standards and the Treasurer's Office.
- Knowledge of Banner software, Microsoft applications including Outlook, Word & Excel.
Minimum Entrance Requirements
High school diploma or GED, 3 years of full-time experience or part time equivalent professional experience in auditing and or accounting with progressively more responsibilities, a Bachelor's degree preferred in Business, Accounting, etc. A masters degree would count toward experience.

Additional InformationThis is a full-time, benefited, non-exempt position. The position is governed by the AFSCME/1067, Council 93 Collective Bargaining Agreement. The agreement outlines the grade and step compensation model with an annual salary of $71,212.44 which is non-negotiable in adherence with the CBA. This position is a salary grade 20, step 01. Hours are 8:30am through 5:00pm. The Final date to receive applications is 02/13/26.
