Job Description

Purpose
:
To supervise students and faculty working in the Photography Darkrooms and studios.

The Office of Communications Media is seeking a federal aid recipient for student employment. This position will be funded by federal work study dollars; only students that receive financial aid awards can be considered for this position. If you have questions about your award or are not certain that you are receiving financial aid, please log into your MyFalcon account and check your award amount for Federal Work study.

If you do not see a Work study award amount, then you are not eligible to apply. If you have any questions regarding your award, contact the Office of Financial Aid at extension 3156 or finaid. Please see below the specific duties and responsibilities of the position.

Responsibilities
  • Controls In/Out access to CNIC
    350 Photography Lab - Maintains single access control to the lab complex through the main door.
  • Final processing of black and white prints. (Instruction provided.)
  • Setup and Breakdown of photo chemicals. (Instruction provided.)
  • Controls the checkout and return of lab and studio equipment.
  • Assists students and faculty with technical problems regarding the lab equipment.
  • Makes periodic rounds of the CNCIC
    350 Photography Lab Complex to verify the security of equipment and to ensure the safe and proper use of equipment and chemicals.
  • Contact Campus Police (and supervisor) if problems arise regarding health or safety.
  • Make sure the Photo Lab and Studios are clean and secure at the end of the shift. (Checklist and training provided.)
  • Performs other related duties as directed by supervisor.
Requirements

Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite programs, film-based photography and/or chemical lab procedures is preferred but not required.

Lab Monitors are a critical line of support with the campus community and should therefore have a professional appearance, possess good interpersonal skills, have a basic working knowledge of equipment and software utilized in specific labs, be flexible and have a positive attitude.

All applicants will receive full training and will be held personally responsible for all procedures covered in said training. While full training is provided, appropriate supervisors should be able to assess a situation and identify when problems are more serious and seek campus police or direct supervisor for help. They should have the judgment to shut systems down when necessary. They will be required to assist students throughout their shift.

Punctuality is required. If unable to cover a shift, prior notice and/or arrangements must be made in advance.

Additional Information

Shift Information: Shift hours vary based on student availability and FWS award amount. Once the schedule has been assigned, your shift time will remain the same until the end of the semester. Students may work a maximum of 20 hours per week at an hourly rate of $15.00.

Priority Review: Returning employees and Communication Media students will have priority in hiring considerations.
