Job Description

Purpose: To supervise students and faculty working in the Game Design Computer labs and Game lounge.

The Office of Communications Media is seeking a federal aid recipient for student employment. This position will be funded by federal work study dollars; only students that receive financial aid awards can be considered for this position. If you have questions about your award or are not certain that you are receiving financial aid, please log into your MyFalcon account and check your award amount for Federal Work study.

If you do not see a Work study award amount, then you are not eligible to apply. If you have any questions regarding your award, contact the Office of Financial Aid at extension 3156 or finaid. Please see below the specific duties and responsibilities of the position.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain single access control to the Game Design Labs.
  • Make sure students sign in and out of labs during your shift.
  • Assist students with basic computer and equipment questions as needed.
  • Make periodic rounds of the Game Design Labs to verify security of equipment and to ensure the safe and proper use of equipment by the students.
  • Contact Supervisor faculty if any technical issues need to be addressed.
  • Call Campus Police (then Supervisor) if there are security issues that need immediate attention.
  • Close down all classrooms, labs and doors and end of night.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements

Lab Monitors are a critical line of support with the campus community and should therefore have a professional appearance, possess good interpersonal skills, be flexible and have a positive attitude. Punctuality is required. If unable to cover a shift, prior notice and/or arrangements must be made in advance.

Appropriate applicants should have a basic working knowledge of equipment and be able to recognize common problems and correct them. They should recognize when software or hardware problems are more serious and to have the judgment to shut systems down when necessary. They should be able to assist students when needed.

Working knowledge of Game Design software and Adobe suite programs is preferred but not required.

Additional Information

Shift Information: Shift hours vary between the hours of 8 a.m.

- 10 p.m. based on student availability and FWS award amount. Once the schedule has been assigned, your shift time will remain the same until the end of the semester. Students may work a maximum of 20 hours per week at an hourly rate $15.00.

Priority Review: Returning employees and Communication Media students will have priority in hiring considerations.
