Job DescriptionThe Physical Education/Health Teacher is responsible for delivering a high-quality instructional experience consistent with the curriculum standards of the school district.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Provide learning experiences in the elementary grades as guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards, while creating an environment conducive to student learning.
- Monitor and supervise students through effective classroom management.
- Promote high standards and expectations for student achievement.
- Use innovative instructional approaches and technology to increase student learning and confidence.
- Work professionally with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and other assigned meetings and activities per school policy.
- Maintain professional competence through professional development events and self-generated activities to meet district expectations and recertification requirements.
- Plan and assess curriculum and instruction effectively.
- Guide learning toward achievement of curriculum standards, establishing clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
- Differentiate instruction and provide appropriate opportunities using the RTI framework.
- Implement the district’s mission, philosophy, and instructional standards.
- Develop a schedule to meet and instruct assigned students at designated locations and times.
- Maintain accurate and complete records per district policy and administrative regulation.
- Assist administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
- Develop classroom behavior rules, maintain order fairly and justly.
- Communicate with students, colleagues, and parents regarding academic and behavioral progress.
- Promote equity and appreciation of diversity, including strategies for students with special needs, 504 plans, and English learners.
- Perform other duties assigned by the principal or assistant principal.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university;
Master’s Degree preferred. - Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary license in this area:
Physical Education (PreK-*) and Health/Family and Consumer Science, All. - Knowledge of current education legislation/regulations.
- Ability to work effectively with teachers, support staff, and parents and advocate for children.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; ability to work with all stakeholders.
- Commitment to increasing personal growth – academic and social-emotional – for every student.
