Assistant Principal - FHS
Fitchburg School District, Fitchburg High School – Fitchburg, Massachusetts.
Job DescriptionThe Assistant Principal facilitates the development of strong systems and structures that support the growth and achievement of all students. They actively participate in the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) work and promote the district's mission, values, and theory of action.
Essential duties for all administrators include supporting classroom instruction and active participation in the work of the department on curriculum development, activities, and pedagogy.
Qualifications- Bachelor's and Master's degrees from an accredited college or university.
- Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education license in:
- Principal/Assistant Principal (5-12)
- SEI Endorsement
- Proven track record of improving a school’s students’ growth and achievement.
- Proven track record of supporting and actively engaging instructional leadership teams.
- At least five (5) years of classroom teaching experience at the secondary level; high school preferred.
- Knowledge of current education legislation and regulations.
- Ability to work effectively with teachers, support staff, and parents and advocate for children to effectively problem‑solve.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Belief in the commitment to increasing personal growth, both academic and social‑emotional, to obtain the highest level of achievement for every student.
- Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply. Spanish, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, and Hmong are the most common languages.
- Assist the principal in facilitating the design of the school’s comprehensive school improvement plan focused on equity and culturally responsive practices that improve student outcomes.
- Assist in the supervision and evaluation of instructional staff in the development and implementation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
- Implement consistent and rigorous standards‑aligned curriculum supported by high‑quality instructional resources.
- Provide staff development to equip teachers with powerful teaching and learning experiences that prepare students for college and career.
- Establish a strong system of professional learning that supports individual school needs and is linked to the district’s Theory of Action.
- Support the development of collaborative educator teams that use student performance data to inform teaching practice and school‑wide improvement.
- Ensure the school provides an individualized learning experience tailored to student academic, social‑emotional, cultural, and behavioral needs.
- Assist in recruitment, interview, hiring, and retention of high‑quality educators.
- Work closely with stakeholders to form community partnerships of educators and parents.
- Promote effective communication with families and the community.
- Utilize culturally sensitive practices to ensure all families feel welcome and can contribute to the educational process.
- Serve as a model for continuous learning and reflective practice.
- Assist in the development, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of extracurricular activities and student programs.
- Provide supervision of after‑school, evening, and weekend activities as necessary.
- Assist in planning and supervision of student safety practices and procedures.
- Assist the principal in developing and implementing the budget concerning personnel, equipment, supplies, and curriculum.
- Assist in planning, direction, and implementation of scheduling activities.
- Participate in administrative meetings and other meetings required to facilitate the educational program.
- Promote and maintain high standards for staff, students, and community members aligned with the theory of action.
- Provide staff with meaningful feedback through supervision and evaluation to accelerate school and district improvement.
- Contribute to development and sustainability of Fitchburg Public School’s Theory of Action.
- Function as a contributing instructional leader on the district instructional team.
