Job Summary
Sizer School, a North Central Charter Essential School, is seeking a School Counselor dedicated to student success to join our Student Services team. The Counselor supports the academic success and educational goals of students in grades 7‑12. The Counselor serves as an advocate, liaison, coordinator, case manager and consultant for students, parents, school staff and community agency personnel. The Counselor works extensively with the Principal to oversee and manage the college and career programs and initiatives at the school, including Early College High School, independent studies and internships.
The Counselor must have a love of working with students to plan their program of study and futures and believe that all students can succeed in achieving their goals.
- Provide evidence‑based academic counseling services for students in support of academic, social, emotional and behavioral growth.
- Lead and/or participate in various student, teacher and family conferences, including student concerns meetings, re‑entry meetings and Special Education Team meetings.
- Provide academic, career, post‑secondary and college counseling.
- Establish, support and grow relationships with collegiate, career and community partners.
- Develop and maintain a college and career curriculum to serve student needs.
- Support early college students throughout the college enrollment cycle.
- Assist students with selecting and registering for courses.
- Monitor, encourage and track student progress toward college and career planning and readiness.
- Contribute to maximizing student success through academic supports, mentoring and regular collaboration with school staff regarding student progress.
- Provide student and family supports to promote college and career attainment, including support with completing the FAFSA.
- Schedule and supervise post‑secondary tours, field trips and career fairs for students.
- Schedule workshops, presentations and speakers for college and career awareness.
- Collaborate with high school and college staff to ensure smooth student transitions to post‑secondary educational opportunities.
- Maintain accuracy in data collection, reporting and database management.
- Utilize highly‑effective strategies and tools to encourage students to plan college and career goals and outcomes.
- Assist students in identifying the best fit for post‑secondary educational opportunities and/or career placement.
- Assist students in college scholarship and financial aid applications.
- Coordinate post‑secondary preparation testing for students.
- Organize and monitor internship opportunities aligned with student career goals.
- Monitor grade‑level and graduation promotion requirements.
- Counsel students and monitor their preparation of materials related to the pursuit of post‑secondary opportunities, including college applications, transcripts, letters of recommendation and supplemental materials.
- Develop counseling curriculum for students in accordance with the MA Model 3.0: A Framework for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs.
- Build and manage student schedules in response to various student needs, preferences and requirements for promotion and graduation.
- In collaboration with the Principal, develop and maintain the master class schedule.
- Partner with families to develop plans for responding to student needs.
- Maintain accurate records; collect and analyze school counseling services data.
- Communicate and collaborate extensively with teachers, administrators, family members, external agencies and other student allies as needed to promote student success.
- Regularly monitor student academic progress.
- Encourage and provide system support in response to the needs of students and the school community; support the school‑wide Advisory Program.
- Perform duties related to data collection and input (Rediker, Frontline and other information systems).
- Maintain relationships with and act as a liaison to outside agencies.
- Collaborate and consult on various grants that support student academic success.
