The Fitchburg Police Department is accepting resumes for full‑time Police Officer positions through the Hybrid Massachusetts Civil Service Local Register (no civil service exam required). Ideal for certified officers, academy‑trained candidates, or applicants who meet Civil Service requirements under MGL Ch. 31 ?58: age, education, seeking meaningful work, career growth, and the chance to serve a Dynamic Citywide Community.

• Candidates eligible for appointment under the Massachusetts Civil Service (MGL Ch. 31 ?58: age, education)
• Certified police officers
• Academy‑trained candidates
• Applicants with an associate degree or higher in criminal justice or a related field (preferred)

• Enforce state and local laws and ordinances
• Patrol assigned areas by vehicle, motorcycle, foot, or bicycle
• Respond to calls for service and emergency situations
• Conduct investigations and interviews; prepare detailed reports
• Make arrests and testify in court when required
• Work collaboratively with officers and community partners; build positive community relationships through proactive engagement
• Participate in ongoing training and professional development
• Perform related duties as assigned

Full‑time. Operates on a 4/2 rotating schedule (four consecutive workdays followed by two days off). Shifts may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Voluntary and mandatory overtime.

• Able to meet Massachusetts POST Commission certification requirements
• Valid Massachusetts driver's license
• Must be able to obtain Massachusetts License to Carry
• Successful completion of background investigation, medical exam, psychological exam, and drug screening
