Job Description:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The simulation operations specialist provides technical expertise and operational management for the Nursing Simulation Center, ensuring the seamless delivery of high-fidelity, simulation-based education. This role is responsible for the full lifecycle of simulation events, including the programming and maintenance of patient simulators, the application of realistic moulage, the operation of integrated audiovisual and server infrastructure, and the physical staging of clinical environments.

The simulation operations specialist trains faculty and staff on emerging technologies and best practices, provides real-time support during live scenarios, and manages essential administrative functions such as inventory procurement, accreditation documentation, and collaboration with University Technology to maintain hardware and software integrity.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Equipment
  • Administer and operate center management systems to record simulations and track center utilization hours.
  • Provide specialized support for computer-based multimedia systems, including server infrastructure, audio/visual mixers, digital/analog converters, and medical equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and networking issues; perform emergency repairs and coordinate with vendors for equipment servicing and warranty claims.
  • Partner with University Technology to manage the deployment and maintenance of desktops, laptops, and mobile devices within the simulation environment.
Instructional Support
  • Oversee the physical and technical setup/breakdown of simulation events, including simulators, task trainers, and hospital-grade equipment.
  • Apply advanced moulage to standardized patients and simulators to enhance the fidelity of clinical scenarios.
  • Collaborate with faculty to program, test, and run complex patient case scenarios, ensuring technical accuracy and pedagogical alignment.
  • Provide real-time technical assistance during simulation sessions, including operating Audio/visual equipment for live-streaming and debriefing.
Training
  • Train and assist faculty and staff in the use of simulation technologies and safe simulation practices.
  • Lead orientations for students and external clients, providing demonstrations of center resources and technology.
  • Evaluate emerging simulation technologies and make recommendations for future equipment acquisitions and process improvements.
Administration
  • Manage the ordering, record-keeping, and storage of consumable supplies and laboratory assets.
  • Contribute to the creation of Simulation Center policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Assist the team in maintaining documentation and data required for simulation center accreditation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor within the scope of the position.
Qualifications

Requirements:

  • At least one year working in simulation, game design, or another type of simulation experience.
  • Proficiency in audio/visual production and networking technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate and detailed records.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft and Google software applications.
  • Ability to perform minor computer hardware and software repairs and upgrades.
  • Ability to understand, apply, and explain policies, procedures, and guidelines relevant to departmental operations.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to perform above duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to satisfactorily pass a check conducted by the Criminal History Systems Board and the Sexual Offender Registry Information (CORI/SORI), and a background check satisfactory to the university.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor s degree in Information Technology, Health Informatics, Healthcare, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in a simulation center or high-stakes clinical environment.
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS Certification).
