The Fitchburg Recreation Department strives to provide quality recreation program opportunities for all Fitchburg Residents and Residents in the surrounding areas!
We are looking for dependable, inspiring role models to bring creativity and excitement to our summer recreation programs!
This is a seasonal position - and will work 30-40 hours per week during the summer months. This position will remain open until filled.
About the Role:Under the general direction and supervision of the Community Center/Recreation Manager, you will plan and implement activities at our Fitchburg parks for youth, ages 6-13, and programs at the community center for youth ages 3-5. There is a strong emphasis on arts and crafts, music, sports, and active playground games including field trips.
Program Coordinator Responsibilities:- Conduct weekly staff meetings to ensure that the playground program is running smoothly.
- Develop, coordinate and supervise field trips, day camp, and the playground program.
- Help with the direct supervision of the playground program, day camp, and field trips.
- Review progress of playground program and direct changes as needed.
- Plan overall programs including events calendar for the season with the playground leaders.
- Ensure availability of materials needed by the playground leaders for each day's activity.
- Develop daily and weekly lesson plans with the playground leaders.
- Make necessary plans for field trips.
- Keep the public informed of all playground activities, field trips, and special events.
- Keep the recreation website and listserv up-to-date with program information.
- Provide program information to the local newspaper.
- Determine needs, locate suppliers, compare prices and make necessary purchases of routine supplies and equipment as needed for the playground program.
- Keep necessary inventory records of supplies and prepare purchase orders.
- Respond to program issues, relay information to the Recreation Assistant.
- Prepare necessary brochures and hand-outs on programs and special events.
- Directly Supervises Program Assistants
- High School diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience or training in education, recreation, or related field preferred.
- Must possess a valid Wisconsin Driver's License.
- Ability to communicate with the public and work effectively with youth ages 3-12;
- Ability to carry out assigned tasks with minimal supervision;
- Ability to supervise other staff.
- Ability to maintain adequate attendance.
- Ability to work with culturally diverse individuals and groups.

Exerting 31-75 lbs seldom. Exerting 11-30 lbs occasionally, and/or 0-10 lbs frequently. Frequently standing, walking, running, and sitting.
Outside work is 65% of the time. Inside work is 35% of the time. Occasional exposure to temperature changes and moderate noise. Exposure to hazards of risk of bodily injury, heat/cold extremes, loud noise, odors, dust, and poor ventilation is seldom.
