Financial Manager
The Senior Finance Manager provides strategic financial leadership and oversight for the Wisconsin Hospital Association (WHA) and its affiliated entities, ensuring fiscal integrity, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency. This role manages all aspects of financial planning, reporting, and analysis, while supervising accounting operations and supporting organizational goals through sound financial stewardship.
Strategic Financial Management- Lead the preparation and oversight of annual budgets for WHA, WHA affiliated entities (WHA Information Center, WHA Foundation), and contracted entities (WCMEW & WISHIN).
- Develop and analyze monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, present insights to executive leadership.
- Manage year-end closing processes and establish new accounting periods.
- Ensure optimal cash flow and investment strategies by maintaining minimum balances and maximizing returns.
- Oversee general ledger functions, including voucher preparation, account coding, and intercompany transfers.
- Supervise reconciliation of all bank, trust, and investment accounts.
- Ensure timely and accurate audit preparation, 990 filings, and depreciation schedules.
- Maintain compliance with federal and state reporting requirements, including CARS reports, and SAM registrations.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff; ensure cross-training and continuity of operations.
- Oversee accounts receivable processes and maintain low AR balances.
- Review and approve employee credit card expenses and vendor payments.
- Provide backup support for administrative functions as needed.
- Maintain and enhance accounting software systems, including company setup and event reconciliation (e.g., Roll Call, Pay Pal).
- Monitor and improve internal controls and financial procedures to support organizational growth and efficiency.
The Senior Finance Manager will have daily contact with the Senior Vice President of Finance and Payment and other Finance Department staff members. This position will have regular contact with WHA, WHAIC and WISHIN staff members.
Required Knowledge & ExperienceThe Senior Finance Manager will have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field and 3 years of experience. A strong working knowledge of standard accounting software (Dynamics Great Plains strongly preferred), and experience in month end closing, financial statement preparation and audit preparation is necessary. Excellent communication skills, analytical skills and proficiency with computer programs such as Excel and Word are required.
The Senior Finance Manager will need to be well organized in order to complete various accounting responsibilities listed above. The ability to work independently with numerous interruptions while maintaining a high level of accuracy is essential.
