Overview
PURPOSE AND SCOPE
Under supervision, the technician is responsible for the operational condition, maintenance, and repair of all water systems, medical equipment, and mechanical/electrical systems to ensure the safety of patients and staff. The role also includes inventory management, housekeeping, and support for cost containment initiatives.
Supports FMCNA's mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy. Adheres to the FMCNA Compliance Program, including all regulatory and FMS policy requirements.
Duties / Activities Customer Service- Driving the FMS culture through values and customer service standards.
- Accountable for outstanding customer service to all external and internal customers.
- Developing and maintaining effective relationships through timely communication.
- Taking initiative and action to respond, resolve, and follow up on customer service issues with all customers in a timely manner.
- Maintains, tests, and repairs all water treatment equipment, dialysis equipment, medical equipment, testing equipment, and mechanical/electrical systems as recommended by the manufacturer and internal procedures.
- Documents all maintenance and repairs.
- Ensures safety checks and routine tasks are conducted and documented in a timely fashion according to established procedures.
- Conducts housekeeping checks and follows up on housekeeping problems.
- Responsible for water treatment equipment cleaning and disinfection.
- Ensures all testing equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
- Maintains environmental integrity and aesthetics.
- Performs building maintenance as needed.
- Coordinates medical waste disposal.
- Collects and organizes supplies for restocking relevant areas.
- Assists in ordering, receiving, and creating SAP purchase orders for supplies.
- Conducts monthly and quarterly inventory of supplies with cost reporting.
- Evaluates and reports current equipment inventory to appropriate sources.
- Ensures visibility to patients with daily walkthroughs during treatment times, when possible.
- Reinforces the concept of Ultra Care™ and customer service—ensuring availability for patients' questions and concerns.
- Provides instructive tours of the water treatment equipment for patients upon request, explaining the basics of the machines.
- Processes water and dialysate samples according to specified procedures and packages samples for shipping.
- Participates in the completion and documentation of ongoing technical QAPI activities.
- Provides assistance at other facilities and/or acute programs, transporting equipment and supplies as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Physical work includes walking, standing for long periods, bending to floor level, and lifting up to 600 lbs. using two‑person assist or equipment.
- May involve handling of chemicals and infectious materials; proper training will be provided.
- Employee must be able to perform emergency procedures, including hand cranking dialysis machines and moving patients to safety.
- Work environment is a health care facility with air temperature control and moderate noise levels.
- High school/Vocational diploma or G.E.D.
- Technician training or AA Degree in electronics preferred.
- At least six months of experience in a technical (industry/hospital) setting.
- Demonstrated organizational and leadership skills for problem‑solving in a medical environment.
- Attendance at all required technical training programs per state/federal regulations and FMCNA policy.
- Compliance with the respiratory fit policy for new or promoted incumbents.
- Valid driver’s license and/or ability to travel to other facilities and transport equipment and supplies.
- Continued employment contingent upon successful completion of the FMCNA Training Program for Technical Staff.
