Senior Technical Writer

Position Overview

Exact Sciences is seeking a Senior Technical Writer to create and modify technical documents related to instruments, automation, test platforms, and products. The role may be site based or remote. The Senior Technical Writer will compose clear technical documentation, partner with engineering staff and scientists, and lead documentation projects to ensure regulations and user needs are met.

• Manage documentation projects, host meetings with regulatory, quality, document users, and subject‑matter experts.
• Act as a mentor and resource to other technical writers, providing editorial review and suggestions.
• Create educational materials and host workshops for other departments.
• Consult with internal departments, support document creation, identify documentation gaps and needs.
• Create, adapt, and follow project schedules and deadlines.
• Lead effective pre‑review of draft documents with subject‑matter experts and reconcile comments to ensure accuracy and usability.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional SME representatives to understand product, audience, and documentation requirements.
• Defining the clearest and most logical way to present information and instructions for greatest reader comprehension.
• Create and/or apply graphics and illustrations to support written content and enhance user understanding.
• Produce high‑quality documentation that meets applicable standards and is appropriate for the intended audience.
• Write, revise, edit, or update instructions, technical information, and frequently asked questions to assist users.
• Remain current on product developments and document requirements.
• Maintain high quality documentation with attention to detail and the ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts.
• Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication and the ability to collaborate cross‑functionally.
• Perform required physical tasks such as lifting up to 10 pounds (5% of the work day) and typing for approximately 90% of the work day.
• Travel between Exact Sciences locations and away from work location up to 10% of the time, which may include overnight or weekend travel.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Biotechnology, Engineering, Technical Communications, or related field;
• High School Diploma/ GED with 4 years of relevant experience as an alternative to a Bachelor’s Degree.
• 7+ years of technical writing experience in an engineering or biotechnology field.
• 3+ years of experience working within a regulated document control environment.
• 2+ years of experience writing documentation for equipment or hardware.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
• Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.

• Experience authoring documents to comply with ISO 13485 and 21 CFR 820 regulations.
• Familiarity with Oracle Cloud PLM Product Lifecycle Management software.

Salary range: $91,000.00 – $ (annual base for the position located in US – WI – Madison, full‑time). The role is bonus eligible.
