Positions are scheduled 40 hours per week; M-F, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and can be expected to last to mid-August.
This position will remain open until filled.
The City of Fitchburg Public Works Parks Department is seeking seasonal employees to join our dedicated and hardworking team. This position is part of a Public Works crew and involves performing manual, unskilled, and semi-skilled tasks across a wide range of parks maintenance operations.
Employees work under the guidance of the Parks Maintenance Supervisor and are expected to carry out responsibilities with a high level of independence and minimal supervision. This is a great opportunity for motivated individuals who take pride in hands‑on work and contributing to the community.
This position will be part of an every 4th-weekend rotation attending the Splash Pad. We will keep this posting open until filled.
Park Maintenance Functions:- Operate tractors, mowers, and pick‑up trucks necessary for construction and maintenance of parks grounds and facilities.
- Assist Parks Maintenance Workers in repair and maintenance of parks department equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance work on parks grounds and parks facilities.
- Properly store park equipment and perform winterizing and spring start‑up of facilities.
- Perform the necessary maintenance for the proper upkeep of parklands such as mowing and trimming grass, planting and trimming trees, shrubbery and flowers, removal of trash, leaves, and other debris.
- Grooming and marking of ball fields and soccer fields.
- Maintenance of hiking trails, street boulevards and grounds surrounding city‑owned buildings and other parks or recreation facilities.
- Maintenance and repair of parks facilities, such as restrooms, shelter houses, picnic tables, grills, playground equipment, signboards and other related equipment.
- Perform construction of park improvement projects using landscaping machinery and hand tools.
- Respond to park users on parks maintenance and park development issues. Relay the information to the Parks Maintenance Supervisor.
- Assist with maintenance on Splash Pad.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience and/or ability to drive a mower and truck required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must possess a valid Wisconsin Driver's License.
