Court Technician I must successfully complete a skills-based typing and writing/grammar test. Hiring salary ranges for Court Technician I are $45,560.00 - $47,838.00 and for Court Technician II are $49,116.00 - $51,571.80.
Typical duties include attending court hearings, determining and recording points and decisions, extracting information and preparing minute entries, accessing and maintaining data in case management systems, providing monthly recaps, interpreting statutes, impaneling juries, transcribing dictation, processing and distributing records, maintaining control of case files, updating calendars, keeping records of matters taken under advisement, marking and maintaining exhibits, certifying documents, reading information preceding criminal trials, closing out criminal case files, issuing bench warrants, performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications for Court Technician I include two years of experience in a business environment or training in business procedures, keyboarding skills of 50 words per minute, and the ability to take dictation at 60 words per minute. Preferred qualifications include knowledge of Juvenile Delinquency and/or Juvenile Dependency processes, prior experience in a court or legal setting, and the ability to take, summarize, and transcribe meeting minutes or legal proceedings.
For Court Technician II, three years of progressively responsible clerical work is required, including at least one year as a Court Technician I. Additional requirements include the ability to type 50 words per minute and passing a background investigation.
