Construction Instructor Pool

Coconino Community College is creating a pool of interested instructors to teach and train students in construction-related trades. Instructors may teach courses, labs, and hands-on training in one or more of the following areas:

  • Electrical Systems
  • Plumbing
  • Framing/Carpentry

Instructors must possess extensive industry experience, a commitment to workforce development, and the ability to teach students the technical skills, safety practices, and professional standards required for success in the construction industry. This position may include classroom instruction, laboratory instruction, hands-on demonstrations, curriculum development, student assessment, and collaboration with industry and educational partners.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

  • Deliver high-quality instruction in assigned construction trade disciplines.
  • Demonstrate industry-standard techniques, tools, equipment, and safety procedures.
  • Develop and maintain lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments aligned with program outcomes.
  • Evaluate student performance and provide constructive feedback.
  • Maintain a safe learning environment and ensure compliance with OSHA and industry safety standards.
  • Monitor and maintain laboratories, shops, and training equipment.
  • Integrate current industry practices, codes, regulations, and technologies into instruction.
  • Support student success through mentoring, advising, and career guidance.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, employers, and community partners to support workforce training initiatives.
  • Participate in professional development activities to maintain current industry knowledge and instructional effectiveness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. Utilize the Learning Management System (Canvas) to at least the minimum threshold as indicated in college procedures.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

Knowledge of construction industry standards, regulations, and best practices. Ability to demonstrate trade-specific skills in a hands-on learning environment. Ability to maintain a safe and organized shop or laboratory environment. Proficiency in reading blueprints, construction drawings, and technical specifications. Ability to foster student engagement and promote a positive learning environment. Commitment to student success, workforce readiness, and continuous improvement.

Minimum qualifications include:

Associate's degree in any of the area of Construction Technology Management and four years directly related industry experience. Preferred:

  • Journeyman, Master, or equivalent trade certification/licensure in a related field.
  • Previous teaching, training, apprenticeship, mentoring, or workforce development experience.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.
  • OSHA 10, OSHA 30, NCCER, or other industry-recognized certifications.
  • Associate's degree, technical certificate, or higher in a construction-related field.
