Position: Employment Support Assistant Manager

Special Information

  • This position is a hybrid position which allows the incumbent to complete their work at both an NAU site, campus, or facility and at a non-centralized site with or without accommodation.
  • This position is subject to the availability of funding. The incumbent is not eligible for Service Professional non-renewal notice, or Classified Staff layoff or recall status.
  • This position is posted as Employment Support Assistant Manager, which is a working title. The NAU system title for this position is Program Assistant Manager.
  • Driving a vehicle on behalf of the university is anticipated to be a regular part of this position. Arizona Administrative Code Fleet Safety Policy requires all employees who drive on university business become authorized by submitting Driver’s license information for driving record monitoring, and completion of training appropriate to the level of driving performed. The law applies to all faculty, staff, and students who drive personal or university-owned motorized vehicles for any business purpose.

About the Department/College

The Institute for Human Development (IHD) is housed in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences located on the campus of Northern Arizona University (NAU) in Flagstaff, Arizona. IHD is an interdisciplinary unit and the oldest institute  is part of a national network of University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDDs), working to increase access, improve attitudes toward, and increase inclusion of people with disabilities.

About

the Position

IHD seeks an Employment Support Assistant Manager for the grant-funded program, Supporting College Access, Learning, and Employment (SCALE). The guiding philosophy that drives program implementation for SCALE is: if individuals with intellectual disabilities self-determine their educational and employment goals and have access to supports to realize these goals, in authentic inclusive and age-appropriate environments, these students will achieve significantly improved transition and employment outcomes.

The successful candidate will have: a demonstrated passion for supporting persons with disabilities, a belief in the transformative power of education, a desire to provide inclusive educational opportunities, and a desire to connect persons with disabilities in Arizona with competitive integrated employment. The Employment Support Assistant Manager will provide support and guidance to students with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities who are transitioning to, or participating in, postsecondary education and employment opportunities by applying the SCALE model and performance measures.

Candidates must be willing and able to travel regularly between SCALE partner sites across Arizona (Flagstaff, Kingman, Bullhead City, Lake Havasu, San Luis, and Yuma). Occasional work in evenings and weekends will be required.

Responsibilities Include

45% - Program Management

  • Lead development and implementation of SCALE career exploration program using a working knowledge of grant requirements, program needs, and student experiences.
  • Lead coordination and day-to-day implementation of SCALE career exploration program, ensuring delivery of meaningful and supportive experiences for students with intellectual disabilities while applying established program guidelines and escalating exceptions when appropriate.
  • Lead in identifying, coordinating, and maintaining individualized and community-based employment and internship opportunities. This includes developing and sustaining partnerships with internal and external stakeholders (near each SCALE site), aligning opportunities with organizational and student needs, and ensuring ongoing oversight, documentation, and compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for development and implementation of SCALE employer training aimed at increasing their knowledge and confidence in how to successfully support people with  their workplace, in accordance with established grant objectives and requirements.
