Overview
The Network Specialist role develops, maintains, and supports network infrastructure including LAN/WAN, file servers, and related hardware and software. The position requires monitoring, troubleshooting, security, backups, documentation, and user training to ensure reliable delivery of information across networks.
Responsibilities- Plans, tests, recommends, and implements network, file server, mainframe, and workstation hardware and software; configures routers, switches, and network management systems.
- Monitors networks, email, phone, file servers, internet and wireless connections to ensure the availability of services; serves as technical specialist in network problems and emergencies; troubleshoots, repairs and resolves problems and issues.
- Investigates alternatives and researches development of strategic implementations of network components; recommends network solutions for short and long term network projects.
- Troubleshoots network to maintain continuity and availability; checks and addresses alarms and warnings from firewall, routers, and spam filters.
- Ensures daily backup system is performed as scheduled; restores files, databases and other information as needed.
- Maintains the integrity and security of the network; monitors data retention, security and data backups.
- Provides instruction and training to residential users and employees on standard operating procedures as well as new software and technologies.
- Implements tools and processes to monitor the capacity, utilization, and performance of the networks to ensure the timely and reliable delivery of information.
- Keeps abreast of industry trends and new technologies; ensures compliance with applicable laws and policies.
- Maintains systems documentation for the data communications network as well as an adequate inventory of necessary supplies.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by conducting research, attending seminars, educational workshops, classes and conferences; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; participating in professional societies; conferring with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations.
- Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
- Associate’s degree in Computer Science or related field. Three years progressive work experience in the network administration or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certifications in A+, Net+, Cisco and Microsoft Certified Network Administrator are preferred.
- Must meet all knowledge, skills and abilities. Must be twenty-one (21) years of age. No felony, theft or stealing convictions. Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen, background investigation, obtain and maintain gaming license. Navajo preference.
Skills And Abilities
- Knowledge of Local Area Network (LAN) and/ or Wide Area (WAN) hardware and software.
- Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs in a Windows environment.
- Skill in preparing, reviewing, and analyzing operational and technical reports and manuals.
- Ability to analyze operational requirements and assess technology and capacity requirements.
- Ability to implement, test, troubleshoot, and maintain network systems software.
- Ability to provide network systems training and user support.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment.
- Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently and meet strict time lines.
- Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit for prolonged periods, walk and stand; use hands for dexterity of motion; stoop, bend, kneel or crouch, and have normal auditory, visual acuity, and verbal communications skills. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Work EnvironmentWork is generally performed in an office setting with a moderate noise level. Occasional work is performed in a Casino setting with exposure to second-hand smoke and a moderate noise level. Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required. Tight time constraints and multiple demands are common.
