Building Maintenance
Under limited supervision performs work of moderate difficulty in the construction, maintenance, and repair of County Jail facilities; performs related work as assigned.

Responsibilities- Installs, maintains, repairs, and performs system checks on facility sub-systems
- Operates a variety of tools and equipment
- Performs inspections according to departmental schedule and recommends repairs, upgrades, and/or replacements
- Prepares and maintains records and reports
- May assist with facility projects and purchasing
- Ensures that facilities are adequately maintained to meet users' needs
- May act as lead worker
Essential functions of this position include but are not limited to: driving; working with and around other employees; vision acuity (near & far) to perform daily work tasks; hearing and speech for communicating with co-workers about work directives; finger dexterity for threading nuts and bolts; environmental factors include working outside in all weather conditions, also dealing with noise and vibration being in a vehicle.
QualificationsThree years of general construction and maintenance experience, including two years of experience in commercial/industrial setting; OR
Associate degree in a related field and two years of general construction and maintenance experience, including experience in commercial/industrial setting; OR
Bachelor's degree in a related field and one year of general construction and maintenance experience, including experience in commercial/industrial setting; OR
Any combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Additional RequirementsMust obtain an Arizona driver's license by date of hire and maintain it throughout employment.
Must submit to a background investigation and successfully pass a polygraph examination.
Preferred Qualificationsand HVAC experience, along with electrical and construction experience in a commercial setting.
This position is non-exempt from overtime.
This position is safety sensitive.
Knowledge- and local building codes and construction standards
- Methods, practices, tools and materials used in various building trades
- Safe working practices
- Energy management systems (EMS)
- Detention lock hardware and electronics
- Use of tools and equipment appropriate to functional area
- Read and understand plans and specifications
- Respond to emergencies as needed on a 24-hour basis
- Effectively handle lifting of various objects up to 60 pounds
- Work in a Jail environment in close proximity to inmates, that requires extra concern and attention to tool, equipment and personal security
- Work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
- Work in confined spaces
- Prepare and maintain records and reports
- Work safely and support the culture of workplace safety
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public
- Follow written and verbal instructions, including manufacturers' service specifications
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
