RN Nurse, Oncology Nurse
Location: Cancer & Blood Specialists of Arizona
Pay Range: $27.60 - $51.25
Job DescriptionSummary:
Provides safe, accurate and efficient patient care, including but not limited to: patient assessment, review of labs and vital signs, medication safety, dose verification, and drug administration. Follows all Job Breakdown Instructions (JBIs) associated with role. Provides triage care when necessary. Communicates patient condition effectively to multidisciplinary team members.
Key Performance Areas:Safely and accurately administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biotherapy, supportive care, and non‑oncologic agents to patients as ordered by providers. Will use Oncology Nurse’s Society (ONS) standards and guidelines. Accurate & safe disposal of biohazardous waste, per OSHA and NIOSH guidelines. Responsible for new and ongoing patient education, continual patient assessment, and support. Documentation:
Thorough, accurate and timely in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Ensure appropriate charges are captured by following guidelines for all medications and activities. Follow proper patient identification per JBI for all encounters. Teach and educate patients and caregivers about medications, side effects and planned treatment. Interact with patient and family professionally. Manage telephone triage: prioritize incoming calls/messages from patients, family, hospitals, nursing facilities, pharmacies, and physician offices from emergent to non‑urgent.
Respond appropriately and timely. Manage supplies: inventory and re‑stock medical supplies, recommend new items as needed; place stock in storage areas timely. Complete annual safety and nursing trainings. Attend mandatory staff meetings. Maintain confidentiality of patient and employee information. Assist in training new employees according to JBIs. Work at any company location as needed and may work overtime with notice.
Perform other duties and projects as assigned. Comply with all federal and state laws & regulations regarding privacy, patient rights, personnel law, safety, labor and employment. Follow company and departmental policies, IT procedures and disaster plan.
Education:
- Nursing Degree
Certifications/Licenses:
- Unencumbered RN License in state of employment or multi‑state license
- Current CPR and BLS certifications
- Valid driver’s license and vehicle for travel to other clinic locations as needed
Previous Experience (minimum years):
- Experience with hematology/oncology patients in a clinic or hospital setting
- Strong critical thinking, ability to assess patient needs and react calmly in emergencies. Fluency in English with excellent oral and written communication.
