Position: Criminal Investigator - Special Agent (Reemployed Annuitant & CTAP/ICTAP/RPL) (Term Appointment)

Overview The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is seeking retirees of the Federal Employee Retirement System (FERS) or Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) to serve as reemployed annuitants in support of its mission to enforce drug laws and protect public health and safety.

Duties
  • Conduct complex criminal investigations targeting narcotics and drug‑related activities.
  • Identify and apprehend drug traffickers and arrest individuals engaged in criminal drug activities.
  • Utilize intelligence, investigative techniques, and legal authorities to conduct investigations.
  • Prepare written documentation to support investigations.
  • Collaborate with teams of special agents and other law enforcement officers, providing guidance and coordination.

Dual Compensation Off-Set Waiver

Reemployed annuitants accepted under a dual compensation waiver are eligible for full annuity and full federal salary, annual and sick leave (if applicable), full‑time schedules, overtime, Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP) of 25% of base salary, and a non‑status term appointment in the competitive service.

Requirements
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top‑Secret security clearance
  • Signed mobility agreement allowing relocation
  • Completion of pre‑employment medical clearance and periodic medical examinations
  • Full‑scope pre‑employment polygraph admission
  • Registrant status for males born after 12/31/59 (Selective Service)
  • Valid state driver’s license
  • Subject to random drug testing
  • Completion of Basic Agent Training (e.g., FLETC CITP or equivalent)
Qualifications
  • One year of specialized experience (GS‑12 level) performing complex criminal investigations, including international and extraterritorial cases, strategic planning of operations, information exchange, courtroom testimony, and team leadership.
  • Time‑in‑grade and time‑after‑competitive appointment requirements met by closing date.
  • CTAP/ICTAP eligibility and rating of 85 or better, if applicable.

All applicants must disclose prior drug activity. The DEA will assess each case individually.
