Operations Technician —

The Operations Technician is responsible for both outdoor and indoor installation of fiber optic infrastructure, supporting the delivery of reliable, high-quality service to our customers. This role includes hands-on field work such as trenching, aerial installation, and connecting fiber optic networks, as well as in-home installations including running fiber, Cat5/6 cabling, mounting wall jacks, and installing and activating Optical Network Terminals (ONT).
This is a customer-facing role requiring strong technical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and the ability to clearly communicate with customers during installation and troubleshooting.
- Perform outdoor installation of fiber optic cable, including trenching and aerial work
- Connect fiber optic cables to distribution points and network nodes
- Complete indoor installations including fiber, Cat5/6 cabling, routers, ONTs, and related equipment
- Troubleshoot and resolve service or installation issues in the field
- Educate customers on equipment use, services, and basic troubleshooting
- Conduct site assessments to determine optimal installation approach
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Safeguard company-issued tools, equipment, and materials
- Collaborate with team members to complete installations efficiently and on schedule
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures during installation activities
- Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, including installation details and service issues
- Basic knowledge of fiber optics, telecommunications, or low-voltage systems
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Technical aptitude for installing and configuring telecommunications equipment
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Must be physically capable of lifting, bending, squatting, and carrying up to 75 lbs
- Must have or be able to obtain work boots meeting ASTM F2413 ANSI standards prior to start
- 1–2 years of experience in telecommunications, fiber installation, or low-voltage work
- Experience with in-home installations (fiber, cable, satellite, or similar)
- Familiarity with Cat5/6 cabling, routers, or ONT equipment
- OSHA 10 certification
- First Aid / CPR certification
