The City of Flagstaff's Public Works Division is seeking a Streets Operations Technician I:
Right-of-Way professional to join a dedicated team committed to keeping the community safe, accessible, and attractive. The Right-of-Way Crew plays a vital role in maintaining public streets, sidewalks, medians, and transportation corridors through a variety of skilled maintenance and improvement activities. Through teamwork, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to public service, crew members help preserve the City's investment in its transportation network while ensuring public spaces remain functional, visually appealing, and safe for all who live, work, and travel in Flagstaff.

- Mows and/or mitigates medians, parkways, shoulders, and other right-of-way areas to maintain visibility and general appearance
- Trims trees and shrubs to maintain required clearance for equipment, vehicles, pedestrians, signs, traffic signals, and streetlights
- Removes or trims vegetation that obstructs driver visibility at intersections, crosswalks, curves, and driveways
- Clears vegetation from around traffic signs, signals, guardrails, and delineators to ensure visibility and functionality
- Performs mechanical, cultural, or approved herbicide-based weed control to reduce invasive or nuisance vegetation
- Identifies dead, diseased, damaged, or structurally compromised trees that could pose a risk to the public or infrastructure
- Removes overgrown brush, fallen limbs, and vegetative debris from rights-of-way to improve safety and accessibility
- Identifies, monitors, and controls invasive plant species that threaten native vegetation, infrastructure, or maintenance operations
- Removes or trims vegetation encroaching onto sidewalks, shared-use paths, ADA ramps, and pedestrian corridors to maintain safe and accessible travel
- Uses hand or small equipment shoveling of snow in right-of-way areas
- Provides support of special event related to right-of-way maintenance needs for area appearance
- Must possess, or obtain within six (6) months, a valid Arizona Class B CDL
- Maintains effective working relationships with internal and external customers and co-workers
- Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity
- Street maintenance operations often require alternating work schedules, the operator must be flexible to accommodate these work schedules
- Actively participates in snow operations and other streets related duties as assigned
- Must be able to operate and maintain various grounds related equipment, power tools, and small engines (mowers, line trimmers, blowers, snow blowers, chainsaw, etc.)
- All Emergency Service Employees shall maintain their principal residence within the state boundaries of Arizona. All Emergency Service Employees, except those holding a position in Fire, will arrive at the assigned or emergency work location within one (1) hour from notification to report to duty
- Incumbents of this position are subject to pre-employment drug screening, and post-employment random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion drug/alcohol screening
- Must have the ability to be contacted and to respond in a timely manner and be willing and able to perform emergency work on an evening, weekend, and twelve (12) hour shift basis
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma
- One (1) year of experience as a laborer in semi-skilled crafts involved in construction, building, or landscaping trades
- One (1) year of equipment operation experience
- Valid driver's license
- Valid Arizona Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
- Traffic control training or certifications
