Under general supervision, performs professional duties providing correctional casework services to individuals under probation supervision, establishing and maintaining a positive and healthy work environment.
Responsibilities- Conduct social investigations and evaluations of assigned defendants, prepare reports, and make recommendations to the Court.
- Advise and supervise individuals on probation, enforcing compliance with court directives.
- Develop and implement client‑based programs; refer clients to necessary services.
- Appear and testify in court.
- Build positive working relationships with supervised individuals.
- Conduct field visits at office, residences, and other sites.
- Perform searches, urinalysis collection, make employment contacts; may arrest and provide crisis intervention.
- Enter data, produce statistical reports, and verify data with central records.
- Maintain written and computerized records, run reports, and verify statistics.
- Track client payments.
- Consult with attorneys and coordinate with victims and community agencies.
- Transport supervised individuals when required.
- Provide counseling to supervised individuals.
- Engage community partners for restorative justice input and accountability.
- Train other officers.
- Make most case decisions independently.
- Driving, sitting at a desk, repetitive typing, hand‑wrist movement, vision acuity for reading and writing, hearing and speech for interviews and fieldwork, and finger dexterity for typing.
Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Behavioral Sciences) and two years progressively responsible experience as a probation officer; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Minimum age 21.
Additional RequirementsMust obtain and maintain an Arizona driver’s license. Must successfully complete a criminal history check. Probation Officer Certification Academy must be completed within the first year for Probation I.
