Mountain Line is the public transit agency serving northern Arizona, providing fixed-route bus service on nine routes, paratransit service, vanpool options, and seasonal Mountain Express service to Arizona Snowbowl. The Transit Operator is a full-time, on-site role located in Flagstaff, AZ. In this position, the operator drives buses along assigned routes while following schedules, safety standards, and agency procedures. Day-to-day tasks include safely operating vehicles in varying weather and traffic conditions, assisting passengers with boarding and exiting, collecting fares, and providing clear and courteous information about routes and services. The role also involves maintaining a clean and orderly vehicle, completing basic pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and reporting incidents, delays, or mechanical issues.

Transit Operators collaborate with dispatch and other team members to ensure reliable service and may participate in ongoing training to maintain certifications and improve skills.

• Transit Operations skills, including route adherence, schedule management, and familiarity with public transportation systems.
• Defensive Driving skills, with a strong focus on safety, situational awareness, and compliance with traffic laws and agency policies.
• Customer Service and Communication skills, including the ability to interact respectfully with diverse passengers and provide clear information.
• Training-related skills, such as willingness to participate in ongoing instruction, learn new procedures, and support a safety-focused culture.
• Valid driver’s license; ability to obtain and maintain a commercial driver’s license (CDL) with passenger endorsement as required.
• Ability to work varied shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Capacity to sit for extended periods, operate vehicle controls, and assist passengers, including those using mobility devices.
• Reliable attendance, strong time management, and the ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations.
