Overview
The EV Maintenance Technician Lead provides a high skill level for accurate electric vehicle maintenance and repairs. The role offers exceptional service delivery while mindful of expense controls. They diagnose and repair vehicle mechanical and electrical systems, including hybrid/electric systems, engines, batteries, fluids and filters, lights, safety equipment, controls, transmissions, tires, brakes, and perform inspections for mechanical deficiencies. The technician must be a good communicator, highly detail‑oriented, and able to effectively problem‑solve.
Primary Duties /Key Responsibilities
- Effectively performs preventive maintenance and repairs.
- Serves as a Master‑level Specialty Tech and can perform the duties of a level I through level III Auto Tech.
- Performs diagnostics and repairs to the high‑voltage systems (components and circuits) on all types of hybrids and electric vehicles, including HV battery and heating/cooling systems, on‑vehicle chargers, HV inverter DC‑DC converter, HV drive motors, transmissions, drive units, electric power steering, brake‑by‑wire and regenerative braking, HV air conditioning compressor and heating systems.
- Follows all safety procedures defined in the Electrical Safety SOP.
- Performs routine preventive maintenance and repairs on various makes and models of hybrid & electric vehicles.
- Diagnoses and repairs the 12‑volt systems.
- Is proficient using a DMM, diagnostic scan tool and DSO.
- Diagnoses issues related to all mechanical and electrical systems.
- Performs complex testing, repairs, and maintenance on OBD II systems, brake systems, tires, tune‑ups, steering, suspension, electrical safety systems, interior/exterior components, engine, and drivetrain.
- Provides technical and operational guidance and support for less experienced techs.
- May fit vehicles with necessary equipment.
- Accurately delivers parts, repairs, electrical systems, and other materials and services.
- Creates and maintains vehicle history and maintenance records.
- Cleans the shop area, disposes of fluids safely, and follows all regulations.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
- 5+ years automotive service and repair experience.
- Ability to drive standard, automatic, and electric vehicles.
- Complete and pass all electrify manheim e‑learning trainings: using an electrical charging station & adapters, mechanic safety, vehicle lift safety for electric/hybrid vehicles, multimeter training, electrical safety for mechanics, chargepoint valet training, chargepoint dashboard.
- Licenses: L1 Hybrid/EV Specialist ASE PreASE A1–A5; ASE A6 (Electrical/Electronic Systems); ASE A8 (Engine Performance); must attain ASE L3 within five months.
- Weber St Univ (5‑day course) or AC‑DC EV Training (10‑day course).
- Complete ATTC Fundamentals of Electrical Systems (3‑day ILT).
- Willing to complete ongoing specialized electrical vehicle training to stay abreast of industry changes.
- Willing to work a flexible schedule, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, talk, and hear.
- Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, squat, and climb.
- Vision required: close, distance, color vision, depth perception, adjust focus.
- Physical ability and mental acuity to execute duties within required time frames.
Hourly base pay rate is $35.48 – $53.27/hour. The rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program.
BenefitsEmployees are eligible to receive a minimum of sixteen hours of paid time off every month and seven paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Employees are also eligible for additional paid time off in the form of bereavement leave, time off to vote, jury duty leave, volunteer time off, military leave, and parental leave.
