At MUTE Garage, we provide electric mopeds through a flexible monthly subscription model, giving delivery riders and urban commuters a cleaner, simpler alternative to traditional vehicle ownership.

We are now rebuilding and scaling our London operation and are looking for a Hands-on Fleet Manager to take ownership of our workshop, technical team and vehicle readiness. This is not a desk-based Fleet Manager position. We are looking for someone who is technically strong, comfortable leading people and, most importantly, still enjoys working hands-on with vehicles.

The Role

During the first 6–12 months, this will be a predominantly hands-on workshop role. Your immediate priority will be to work alongside our mechanics to improve repair quality, workshop productivity and vehicle turnaround, while helping us build a strong and reliable technical team. You should expect to spend a significant part of your working week on the workshop floor, using tools, diagnosing faults and repairing vehicles yourself.

As the workshop becomes more structured, the team develops and our active fleet grows, the role will naturally evolve. You will progressively spend less time personally repairing vehicles and more time managing the workshop, technical team and overall fleet performance. For someone who wants to move from Senior Mechanic / Lead Technician / Workshop Lead into broader fleet management, this is a genuine opportunity to make that progression while remaining close to the technical side of the business.

What You’ll Actually Do

• Hands-on diagnostics & repair: Personally diagnose, troubleshoot and repair electric mopeds, including mechanical and electrical faults.
• Lead from the workshop floor: Work alongside the mechanic team, particularly during the first 6–12 months, rather than managing them from behind a desk.
• Workshop leadership: Organise daily repair priorities and ensure vehicles move efficiently from diagnosis through repair, quality control and back into service.
• Team management & development: Lead, assess, train and support our mechanics. Help identify where the team needs to improve and recruit additional technical talent as the fleet grows.
• Quality & fleet uptime: Reduce repeat repairs and vehicle downtime by identifying recurring faults, improving repair standards and ensuring vehicles are properly road-ready before returning to customers.
• Technical processes: Develop simple, practical repair procedures and workshop standards so the team works consistently, safely and efficiently.
• Workshop organisation: Maintain a clean, organised and productive workshop with appropriate tooling and equipment.
• Health & safety: Take ownership of safe workshop practices and ensure the technical operation meets our internal standards and applicable UK health and safety requirements.

What We Are Looking For

• Hands-on technical experience: Ideally 3+ years working with motorcycles, scooters, e-mopeds, e-bikes, EVs or another relevant mechanical/electrical environment.
• Strong diagnostics: Comfortable troubleshooting both mechanical and electrical faults using practical diagnostic methods and equipment.
• Workshop experience: You understand how a productive workshop should operate and how to move vehicles efficiently through diagnosis, repair and quality control.
• Leadership ability: Experience leading, supervising or training mechanics/technicians — or clear evidence that you are ready to make that step.
• Still hands-on: This is important. If you are looking for a purely managerial or desk-based Fleet Manager position, this isn't the right role. We need someone who still genuinely enjoys fixing vehicles.
• Practical mindset: You are organised, take ownership and care about doing repairs properly rather than simply getting vehicles out of the door.
• UK working rights: You must have the right to work in the United Kingdom.
• Driving licence: A UK driving licence is preferred.
