Position: Court Services Officer 2 Pre-Trial Services

Position Overview

The selected candidate will primarily be responsible for monitoring the conditions of pretrial release for individuals ordered to more stringent monitoring and more frequent contact with the courts, assisting these individuals in attaining specific goals to ensure their appearance in court and the safety of the public during their period of pretrial release, and reporting the individuals’ compliance or non‑compliance with conditions of release to the court.

The role also includes researching criminal case histories, conducting pretrial risk assessments, preparing reports, meeting with defendants, making recommendations to judges regarding conditions of pretrial release, staffing first appearance/Central Judicial Processing hearings and pretrial detention hearings, and providing guidance to clients with specific needs, including referrals for social, emotional, rehabilitative, testing, treatment and/or counseling services.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor conditions of pretrial release and document compliance or non‑compliance.
  • Research criminal case histories and conduct risk assessments.
  • Prepare reports and recommend conditions of release to judges.
  • Staff first appearance, Central Judicial Processing, and pretrial detention hearings.
  • Provide guidance and referrals to clients with social, emotional, and rehabilitative needs.
  • Assist supervisors with training and mentoring of Pretrial Services staff.
  • Conduct stakeholder and community outreach related to the Pretrial Services Program.
  • Work a non‑traditional work week which may include weekends, holidays, and after‑hours on‑call responsibilities.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Salary

Schedule A: $61,749.69 – $.
Schedule B: $61,749.69 – $95,146.95.
Newly hired individuals normally receive the minimum of the salary range; current Judiciary employees receive a 5% increase of base salary upon promotion, not exceeding the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater.

Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
  • Two years of professional experience in case management involving gathering and analyzing case‑related information, exercising judgment and discretion, and preparing reports of findings and recommendations.
  • One or more of the following: reviewing cases to identify case management and discovery needs, coordinating with judges and/or attorneys to resolve case issues, and/or preparing reports of findings and recommendations.
  • Substitution is possible: an associate degree plus two years of additional paraprofessional or professional experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree.
  • A master’s degree may substitute for one year of experience.
Other Requirements
  • Ability to perform work that may require climbing, prolonged standing, stretching, bending, and reaching.
  • Frequent lifting and carrying of supplies weighing 30–50 pounds, and occasionally up to 75 pounds.
  • Valid driver’s license in New Jersey if vehicle operation is necessary for essential duties.
  • Authorized to work in the United States according to Department of Homeland Security regulations. US citizenship is not required.
  • New hires must agree to a thorough background check that includes fingerprinting.
  • Newly hired employees within one year of hire must establish and maintain principal residence in New Jersey, with possible exemption upon request.
