Position: AUTO MECHANIC (FACILITIES AND OPERATIONS)

Minimum Qualifications

Four (4) years' comprehensive experience in automotive repair.

Starting Pay:

  • $24.2875 Hourly ($50,518)
  • Step A: $27.7269 Hourly ($57,672)
  • Step B: $28.5909 Hourly ($59,469)
  • Step C: $29.4933 Hourly ($61,346)
  • Step D: $30.4298 Hourly ($63,294)
  • Step E: $31.4394 Hourly ($65,394)
  • Step F: $32.4856 Hourly ($67,570)

Minimum Qualifications -AND
- State of Michigan certification in Brakes & Braking Systems, Engine Tune-up/Performance, Engine Repair and Electrical Systems -AND- EPA certification in air conditioning.

Special Qualifications Employee must attain a valid State of Michigan certification as a Master Automobile Mechanic within six (6) months from the date of entry into the position. Failure to obtain such certification shall be just cause for termination of employment.

Additional Requirements Must provide own hand tools -AND- possess a valid Michigan driver's license.

Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY:

Performs general repair and maintenance on County and/or leased vehicles; facilitates check out of Motor Pool vehicles to County departments and personnel; works under the direction of general supervision; performs related duties as required.

Job Duties And Functions
  • Performs major repairs to automobiles, trucks and vans on a scheduled basis, including but not limited to transmissions, differentials, drive units, brakes, suspension systems, chassis, front and rear ends, cooling systems, fuel systems, instruments, electrical systems, hydraulic systems and accessory power equipment;
  • Assists with the ordering of parts and routine supplies as needed;
  • Rebuilds engines, carburetors, ignition systems and radiators;
  • Maintains records of work performed;
  • Assists in gas pumping, tire changing, etc;
  • Makes road service calls and related field repairs;
  • Replaces defective automobile, truck and van parts;
  • Assists customers with the check out of County vehicles;
  • Inputs miles driven of County vehicles for cost allocation purposes.
