Starting salary is dependent on education, directly related experience and internal equity. After completing the second probationary semester, the potential exists to earn additional compensation by teaching overload and spring/summer sessions. This additional compensation varies based on several factors, including educational level and step. For example, a faculty member with a Master’s degree at Step 0 who teaches 10 hours of overload during the fall and winter semesters would earn an additional $18,000.

Purpose, Scope & Dimension of Job Faculty facilitate student learning and initiate and participate in efforts to consistently improve the level of student success. As learning facilitators, faculty consistently assess learning outcomes and their own teaching effectiveness (pedagogy). As professionals, faculty adhere to the ethical standards of their profession as outlined, for example, by the NEA and the State of Michigan.
Where applicable, faculty maintain licensure and certifications. In addition, full‑time faculty have the following key responsibilities which are described more fully below in the Essential Duties/Major Accountabilities section:

Specific Teaching Assignment:
Faculty member will be responsible for teaching classes in the Dental Hygiene program. Assures that students progressing through the courses have learning opportunities directed toward accomplishment of behavioral objectives of the curriculum.
- Assures appropriate learning experiences including equipment, supplies, and patient care situations are available for student use.
- Provides supervision of student practice in the clinical setting to assure patient and student safety and to prevent unsafe practices by students.
- Develops, plans for and uses established assessment tools and procedures to assure observation and documentation of student performance.
- Develops grading policies and clinical procedures with other program faculty to assure students attain a minimum safe level of practice to be successful.
- Serves as a positive, professional role model for students.
- Conducts classes in Dental Hygiene theory, laboratory and clinical practice in accordance with program philosophy, objectives and procedures.
- Promotes curriculum and experiences consistent with a focus on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice in health care and classroom settings.
- Works collaboratively with and provides direction for the Support Specialist for the Dental Clinic area.
