Job Overview
This position is anticipated for future semesters. Specific part‑time teaching needs will be determined at the end of class registration.
Faculty facilitate student learning and consistently assess learning outcomes and teaching effectiveness, adhering to ethical standards such as those of the NEA and the State of Michigan. Faculty maintain licensure and certifications where applicable. The role involves teaching Accounting courses.
Responsibilities- Teach accounting classes part‑time.
- Develop and deliver high‑quality courseware through lecture, web‑style delivery, and other instructional approaches.
- Plan and implement lessons aligned with college objectives and student needs.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and apply current research and theory to instruction.
- Maintain collegial relationships with students, peers, staff, and administrators.
- Master’s degree in Accounting or Business (or related field) from an accredited institution, with 18 graduate hours in accounting and finance, or certification as a CPA or CMA. (Bachelor’s degree in Accounting plus a Master’s with 18 hours beyond the Principles of Accounting sequence is acceptable.)
- Two (2) years of practical experience in the accounting field.
- Understanding of and commitment to community college teaching mission and philosophy.
- Innovative, flexible, and positive teaching style with awareness of diverse student backgrounds.
- Language skills: ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, journals, procedures, and regulations; write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals; present information clearly and respond to questions.
- Mathematical skills: application of fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, probability, and statistical inference to practical situations.
- Reasoning ability: solve practical problems and interpret varied instructions in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
- Technology skills: integrate computer applications into teaching.
- Other abilities: apply current research, plan lessons, maintain collegial relationships, and communicate effectively.
- Foreign degree must be certified by a professional evaluation service at the candidate’s expense.
- Ability to produce high‑quality courseware across multiple approaches.
- Evidence of continuing professional development in accounting.
- Evidence of an entrepreneurial spirit linked to small‑business consulting or ownership, applicable to instructional techniques, curriculum development, and classroom management.
- Move around the campus 2/3 of the time and remain stationary 1/3 of the time.
- Conduct regular phone, face‑to‑face, or written conversations with students and staff.
- Use computer programs independently (internet, Word, student database).
- Present information in instructional settings and answer questions from groups.
- Handle and mix chemicals safely where applicable, wearing appropriate gloves.
Part‑time faculty are not required to hold regular office hours during semesters taught, but must provide student consultations as needed and reasonable.
Additional Information- Must be available to teach on‑site; online‑only teaching is not offered.
