Position Summary
Faculty facilitate student learning and initiate and participate in efforts to consistently improve the level of student success. As learning facilitators, faculty consistently assess learning outcomes and their own teaching effectiveness (pedagogy). As professionals, faculty adhere to the ethical standards of their profession as outlined, for example, by the NEA and the State of Michigan. Faculty maintain licensure and certifications when applicable.
EssentialDuties / Major Accountabilities
- Work to create a supportive, student‑centered learning environment.
- Coordinate and integrate individual student support activities with Student Services.
- Mentor students seeking career and academic advice.
- Maintain office hours and communicate with students via phone, email, fax, and mail.
- Plan and develop instruction for face‑to‑face, classroom, laboratory, and technology‑based formats.
- Follow instructional design practices in course preparation, including syllabi, learning activities, and assessments.
- Provide learning activities that meet course objectives and serve diverse student populations.
- Assess student performance and adjust content and methods accordingly.
- Implement appropriate use of technology in the curriculum.
- Infuse diversity, local, community, global, and environmental awareness into the curriculum.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and comply with all reporting deadlines.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records in accordance with FERPA.
- Engage in subject‑matter and pedagogical development.
- Participate in conferences, workshops, and publications relevant to the discipline.
- Attend faculty meetings at the discipline, division, Academic Affairs, and College levels.
- Assist in evaluations of faculty and curriculum planning.
- Participate in graduation activities and advisory committees.
- Adhere to and support College policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
- Exercise stewardship of college facilities and materials.
- Collaborate with Student Services and other campus units.
- Represent the College positively in community interactions.
- Higher education teaching experience in voice/choral or instrumental/band, music technologies, music business, or other specialty music courses.
- Experience using technology to enhance teaching, such as online/digital resources and course management software.
- Mobility: move about two‑thirds of the time and be stationary about one‑third.
- Communicate regularly with individuals, reading and responding to needs in conversations and written documentation.
- Operate all key software independently (Internet, Word, student database).
- Present instructional material and answer questions in group settings.
- Handle and mix chemicals safely where applicable, wearing appropriate gloves.
- Music Appreciation:
Wednesdays 3:00‑5:50 at Lapeer. - Fundamentals of Music:
Tuesdays/Thursdays 9:00‑11:50 on campus. - OR
- Music Theory / Aural
Skills:- Aural Skills meets Mondays/ Wednesdays 9:00‑9:50am.
- Music Theory meets Mondays/ Wednesdays 10:00‑11:50am.
Part‑time faculty are not required to hold regular office hours during semesters but must provide student consultations as necessary.
