Job Duties
Develop and grow graduate programs (on‑campus, online, and BS/masters pathways). Work with department heads and faculty on strategic expansion of on‑campus graduate education. Develop a comprehensive recruiting plan for on‑campus graduate education. Develop external sources of support for graduate students and programs.
Manage development and execution of faculty research programs and compliance (both federal and applied/company sponsored). Develop and grow external funding opportunities. Work with governmental agencies, foundations, and private sector companies to identify and develop funding opportunities. Coordinate and support institutional initiatives relating to technology transfer and intellectual property issues. Work with community leaders to identify opportunities to enhance research and development in Flint and the region.
Provide leadership for research and on‑campus graduate programs. Develop a strategic agenda for research and graduate programs. In collaboration with department heads, faculty, and staff, provide institutional leadership in areas of research and graduate education. Develop and manage professional development programs and translate them into degree‑seeking programs.
Provide administrative supervision for the offices of sponsored research and graduate studies. Provide daily supervision of employees for the offices of sponsored research and graduate studies. Provide budget oversight. Develop and implement policies and processes across research and graduate programs. Provide compliance oversight.
Minimum Qualifications- At least 3 years of administrative experience in higher education and/or research administration.
- A record of developing new graduate programs and/or expanding existing programs.
- Significant leadership experience in research and grant administration at the department level and/or higher.
- Experience working with industry partners.
- Experience recruiting international graduate students.
Required Qualifications
- An earned doctorate in an engineering or science field, or an equivalent terminal degree.
- A proven track‑record of research and teaching commensurate with an appointment as a tenured full professor in one of the University’s departments.
- Effective leadership, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
- Significant experience working with graduate students and promoting graduate education.
- Knowledge of funding sources and regulatory issues related to grant funding.
- A proven track‑record in obtaining substantial external funding to support research.
- Successful experience in budget management and in planning.
