Responsibilities

Minimum salary for this position is $6,375 per section, based on a 25% effort appointment. The University of Michigan-Flint invites applications for two part-time faculty positions at the Lecturer I level for the period of August 20 through December 19, 2026. The positions require teaching one or more 3-credit-hour (25% effort) undergraduate courses in person. Applicants may apply to teach one course, all listed courses, or any combination of the courses and sections listed below.

Final course assignments will be based on departmental need and candidate availability. Applicants should indicate which course or courses, sections, and meeting times they are interested in and available to teach.

EDN 100:
Introduction to Special Education (Fridays 9:30 AM-12:15 PM) - Onsite

EDN 100:
Introduction to Special Education (Fridays 12:30 PM-3:15 PM) - Onsite

Course Description

Investigation of multidisciplinary approaches and collaborative roles used to support learners in a diverse society, with an introduction to terminology, identification of needs, and issues commonly encountered in addressing the needs of diverse students with disabilities. Emphasis on inclusion, diversity issues, federal and state (MI) legislative mandates pertinent to free appropriate public education, appropriate evaluation, individualized education plans, least restrictive environments, parent participation, and procedural safeguards.

EDN 200:
Introduction to Inclusion (Thursdays 5:30 PM-8:15 PM) - Onsite

Course Description

Introduction to the inclusive education framework and its philosophy and goals for school and classroom practices that support the success of all students, regardless of ability. Foundational skills for setting up and teaching in an inclusive education program to meet the needs of students with disabilities in general education settings; skill development in inclusion strategies.

EDN 330:
Special Education Methods in English Language Arts, Social Studies, and Related Topics (Mondays 9:30 AM-12:15 PM) - Onsite

Course Description

Investigation of instructional approaches, strategies and materials for teaching English language arts and social studies to K-12 students. Designed to equip pre-service special educators with knowledge and pedagogical skills addressing the academic needs of students with or at risk for disabilities. Emphasis on assessment, instruction and accommodation. A minimum of 1 day per week in the field for the semester (minimum of 90 hours) with a weekly class meeting.

Graded ABCDE.

EDN 360:
Inclusion Field Experience (Tuesdays 12:30 PM-3:15 PM) - Onsite

Course Description

Students observe, implement, and practice collaborative strategies and programs to support the academic, behavioral, and social needs of all students across general and special education environments, with emphasis on inclusion and least restrictive environments. Seminar topics include individual differences and characteristics of disabilities; differentiation, modification and accommodations across content areas; three-tiered models of prevention; and co-teaching, collaboration and teaming. Approximately 8 hours per week in a field placement with a weekly seminar.

A minimum of 90 hours in the field is required.

Required Qualifications

Prospective candidates must minimally possess a Master’s degree in Special Education and/or equivalent teaching experience. Must hold licensure in Special Education. Graduate work must have been completed within an accredited program. Evidence of relevant teaching experience is required. The ability to be on campus during the course meeting time is expected.

A variety of experiences teaching children who receive special education services at a variety of ages.
