Band Teacher
The Band Teacher will design, implement, and assess instruction that aligns with the district's mission, philosophy, and educational objectives. This role involves developing students' skills and creating engaging opportunities. The Band Teacher will also collaborate with staff, students, and the community to build a dynamic and inclusive program that enhances the overall educational experience.
Essential Functions (May include, but not limited to):
- Instructs and leads band and orchestra classes ensuring that students develop musical skills and understanding in a structured and engaging environment.
- Leads and directs the Marching Band for athletic events and other school activities, providing guidance and preparation for performances, often including after-school rehearsals and events.
- Organizes and participates in music competitions to showcase students' talent and provide performance opportunities for growth and recognition.
- Develops and supports various music ensembles, such as concert bands, jazz bands, and small groups, to provide students with diverse performance experiences.
- Plans and coordinators performance opportunities for students throughout the year, ensuring that students have the chance to demonstrate their progress and talents.
- Creates at least two major culminating activities per year, such as a holiday program or spring festival, that showcase band and orchestra students.
- Identifies and pursues opportunities to showcase student performances and achievements within the community.
- Collaborates with other staff members in the school to integrate music with core subjects, supporting content standards and enhancing interdisciplinary learning.
- Contributes to the ongoing development and refinement of music performance standards, performance tasks, and the creation of exemplars and anchors to ensure consistent growth and achievement in the music program.
- Provides knowledgeable instruction on all instruments in the band and orchestra, offering expert guidance to students and helping them refine their skills.
- Plans and organizes daily class activities to maintain appropriate behavior standards, ensuring a productive and focused learning environment for all students.
- Creates a positive, nurturing, and supportive environment in which all students feel valued, encouraged, and challenged to reach their full musical potential.
- Cultivates a culture within the music program that aids in the recruitment and retention of students, ensuring the continued growth and vitality of the band and orchestra programs.
- Works collaboratively with colleagues, staff, and other educational professionals to enhance the overall educational experience and integrate music across school programs.
- Demonstrates positive communication skills with students, parents, colleagues, and administration, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed and involved in the music program's activities and goals.
- Maintains regular and punctual attendance, makes effective use of planning time, and performs all professional duties in a timely and efficient manner.
- Maintains the confidentiality of student, parent, and teacher information in accordance with professional ethics and relevant state and federal laws.
- Performs record keeping duties to maintain the accountability of the instructional program, including attendance, grades, and other required documentation as directed by building principal.
- Assists in the selection and recommendation of instructional materials, books, and resources that enhance the curriculum and support student learning.
- Works collaboratively with other staff members to contribute to the continuous improvement of school programs and student outcomes.
- Participates in staff, department, and committee meetings as required, collaborating with colleagues to improve the overall educational experience.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education:
Valid Michigan Secondary Teaching Certificate required. JX or JQ endorsement required.
Skills:
Ability to work cooperatively on a teaching team. Ability to communicate with students effectively through speaking, reading, and writing as appropriate. Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office, Internet, Email, and On-Line grading programs. Knowledge of common assessments and teaching methods.
