Compensation Details:
Starting salary is dependent on education, directly related experience and internal equity. After completing the second probationary semester, the potential exists to earn additional compensation by teaching overload and spring/summer sessions. This additional compensation varies based on several factors, including educational level and step. For example, a faculty member with a Master's degree at Step 0 who teaches 10 hours of overload during the fall and winter semesters would earn an additional $18,000.

Teaching during the spring/summer sessions would also generate additional compensation beyond the base salary. Excellent benefits package.

Position Summary:

Faculty facilitate student learning and initiate and participate in efforts to consistently improve the level of student success. As learning facilitators, faculty consistently assess learning outcomes and their own teaching effectiveness. As professionals, faculty adhere to the ethical standards of their profession as outlined, for example, by the NEA and the State of Michigan. Where applicable, faculty maintain licensure and certifications.

In addition, full-time faculty have the following key responsibilities which are described more fully below in the Essential Duties/Major Accountabilities section:
Teaching, Professional development, Curriculum/Program Development, Service/Citizenship Responsibilities to the Students, Program, Division, and College, Safety Training and Adherence. Specific Teaching Assignment:
Faculty members will be responsible for teaching classes in specified areas of biology. Priority will be given to applicants with a background and expertise in the General Biology, Microbiology, and Anatomy & Physiology areas for both major and non-major students.

Minimum Requirements:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
1. Master's degree or higher in Biology or related sub-discipline from an accredited institution with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in courses specific to biology.
2. Understanding of and commitment to community college teaching, mission and philosophy.
3. Innovative, flexible, positive, and equity-minded teaching style and understanding the needs of students from diverse backgrounds.
4. Ability to teach effectively in multiple teaching modalities including face to face, hybrid, hyflex, and fully online.

Additional Desirable

Qualifications:

1. Academic experience which includes work, research, study or teaching in multiple areas of biology is desirable.
2. Recent teaching experience in Microbiology lecture and laboratory courses. 3. An interest in developing new courses and programs.
4. Demonstrated familiarity with the Canvas course management system, and the Microsoft Office and Google Suite software packages.
5. Evidence of continuing professional development in biology.

Physical Requirements /

Working Conditions:

1. The employee must be able to move about 2/3 of the time and be stationary about 1/3 of the time. S/he is required to be mobile around campus for participant involvement/activities. 2. S/he must be able to converse with individuals on a regular basis with the ability to read, analyze, and interpret their needs via phone conversations, face-to-face conversations, or written documentation.

3. The employee must be able to use college-approved learning management systems and computer programs. 4. S/he must be able to present information in an instructional setting and respond to questions from groups. 5. If applicable, must be able to tolerate frequent exposure to a wide variety of chemicals which are common to the industry. Must be able to handle and mix chemicals properly and safely;

and wear appropriate gloves.
