Trane in Flint, MI is hiring for a Controls Project Engineering Specialist I to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for hardware and software design activities for building automation systems, applying engineering principles and practices for work on assigned projects, and designing cost‑effective control solutions to meet project requirements.

- Work schedule:
Monday–Thursday onsite with colleagues;
Fridays flexible – choose your work location based on project needs.
- Design commercial comfort control and automation systems with supervision.
- Obtain and review contract documents, proposals, mechanical plans, specifications, estimates, equipment submittals, etc., for incorporation into the automation system design.
- Create installation drawings, submittal drawings, and sequences of operations for efficient installation of the project.
- Conduct on‑site surveys if needed to determine controls solutions.
- Transition these documents to the field.
- Follow up by creating as‑built drawings, operation & maintenance manuals, and assisting with transition to the service department.
- Follow engineering standards and guidance from mentor/manager.
- Previous HVAC industry knowledge such as Technician, project management, or estimating; or an equivalent combination of education, work experience, or aptitude for construction and design.
- Proficiency in Windows operating system and Microsoft Office.
- Familiarity with the operation and design of HVAC Systems, Building Automation Systems, and/or Temperature Controls preferred.
- Experience with CAD programs and a basic understanding of electrical drawings and schematics preferred.
- Ability to work as part of a team within a structured environment and maintain well‑organized records.
- Some travel to construction sites within the district to determine controls solutions.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license for at least 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations including, but not limited to, DUI, hit & run, license suspension, reckless or careless driving, or multiple smaller infractions or preventable collisions in the previous 3 years.
Base Pay Range: $57,000 – $98,650. Total compensation for this role will include an incentive plan.
