EMPLOYMENT RELATIONSHIP

Just cause subject to probationary period

CURRENT HOURS AND STARTING TIME

Full-time (37.5 hours per week) position. The starting time for this position is 8:00am – 4:30pm.

General Summary

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assists with multiple engineering initiatives including planning, studies, engineering evaluations, design and construction of projects, plan review, data analysis, asset management and capital improvement projects. Performs frequent application of engineering principles to support decision making as well as developing new approaches to solving problems.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

Reviews engineering plans and specifications, studies, reports, engineering evaluations, submittals, and shop drawings for sanitary and storm systems including county drains, pumping stations, Retention Treatment Basins and other related facilities.

Confers with engineering consultants, municipal officials and representatives of local agencies, state and federal government officials regarding sanitary sewers, storm drains, sewage treatment works, and other related projects.

Oversees construction projects and project schedules. Monitors construction progress and reviews project invoices, pay estimates, and change orders.

Develops and manages capital improvement projects for various facilities.

Assists the public, consultants, municipalities, contractors, and utility companies with information related to the Public Works Department.

Generate updates, internal memos, technical letters and other correspondence related to ongoing projects.

Prepares developer agreements and drain contracts for improvement of county drains associated with commercial and residential developments.

Conducts meetings with property owners, engineers, contractors, and agencies to inquire information and identify and resolve problems associated with county drains and infrastructure projects.

Conducts data analyses, interprets results, and prepares reports.

Attends and participates in regular staff, coordination, and progress meetings.

Operates An Automobile To Perform Essential Job Functions.

Performs related work as required.

Qualifications Required

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, Construction Management or related field
  • Three (3) years of experience in review and design of Engineering projects
Preferred Education And Experience
  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, Construction Management or related field
Required Licenses Or Certifications
  • Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license and operable, insured automobile for authorized travel
Preferred Licenses Or Certifications
  • Possession of a current Professional Engineer license from the State of Michigan
Knowledge Of COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE OF JOB DUTIES
  • Principles and practices of civil engineering and hydraulics
  • Methods of survey, nomenclature, and symbols used in design and construction
  • Contract technical specifications
  • Applicable software applications
  • Principles and practices of basic bookkeeping
  • Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment
