Position Summary
The Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET I / II) is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, repairing, calibrating, and troubleshooting a wide variety of medical equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operation within a hospital environment. This role supports patient safety and clinical operations by providing timely, high-quality biomedical services.
Level (I or II) will be determined based on experience, certifications, and demonstrated competency.
Key Responsibilities- Perform preventive maintenance (PM), corrective maintenance (CM), and safety inspections on medical equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair biomedical devices to manufacturer and regulatory standards.
- Document all work performed in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Respond to service calls in a timely and professional manner.
- Assist with equipment installations, moves, and removals.
- Support incoming equipment inspections and acceptance testing.
- Identify recurring equipment failures and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate asset inventories.
- Follow hospital safety, infection control, and quality procedures.
- Communicate effectively with clinical staff regarding equipment status and usage.
- Escalate complex issues to senior technicians or leadership as needed.
- Associate’s degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field (or equivalent military / technical training).
- 0–2 years of biomedical or electronics repair experience.
- Basic understanding of medical device operation and electrical safety.
- Strong mechanical and troubleshooting aptitude.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in clinical environments.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3–5 years of biomedical equipment repair experience in a hospital or healthcare setting.
- Ability to independently troubleshoot and repair a broad range of devices.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards (Joint Commission, CMS, FDA, NFPA, AAMI).
- Preferred: CBET or working toward certification.
- Experience with patient monitoring systems, infusion pumps, defibrillators, anesthesia machines, and imaging peripherals.
- Strong documentation and computer skills.
