The Certified Nursing Assistant cares for residents under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse or a licensed practical/vocational nurse. This role assists residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), ensures a safe and comfortable environment, and supports licensed nursing staff in delivering individualized care in accordance with regulatory requirements and facility policies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide direct resident care, includingassistancewith bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, incontinent care as applicable, oralhygieneand feeding.
• Measure and record vital signs, weight,percentage of meal consumed intake/output as directed.
• Assist residents with mobility, transfers, and position using proper body mechanics and lift equipment as applicable.
• Respond promptly to call lights, resident needs, and changes in condition; report observations to licensed nursing staff.
• Support residents’ independence and dignity, while ensuring safety and comfort
• Maintainaccurateandtimelydocumentation andin accordance with facility procedures
• Follow infection control,safety,and universal precaution guidelines at all times.
• Provide emotional support and companionship to residents, fostering a positive living environment
• Maintains a clean,safeand comfortable environment
• Make routine rounds on each assigned resident every two hours.
• Provides skin care andobservesresidents’skin when giving care and reports changes to licensed nurse.
• Modifies own behavior in response to residents’ behaviors.
• Is aware of developmental tasks associated with the aging process.
• Contributes to the residents’assessment (MDS/CAA’s) and the plan of care.
• Promote residents’ability toadaptand adjust to living as independently as possible.
• Assists the resident in self-care according to the resident’s abilities.
• Assiststheresidentsin the use of assistive devices for transferring, walking and mobility, dressing and grooming,eatingand swallowing.
• Maintainsrangeofmotion,proper turning and positioning in bed and chair.
• Assists with bowel and bladder retraining.
• Instructs the resident on the care and use of prosthetic and orthotic devices.
• Incorporates training and skill practice activities, which include repetition, physical or verbalcueing,and task segmentation.
• Cares for residents with Dementia
  • Knowshow to respond to residents’ behaviors.
  • Allows residents to make personal choices.
  • Provides and reinforces other behavior consistent with residents’ dignity.
  • Usesthe resident’s families as a source of emotional support for the resident.
  • Demonstrates a basic understanding of behavior and functional symptoms associated with dementia by providing interventions and treatments to help reduce these symptoms.
  • Uses modification in the presentation of activities of daily living tomaintainand maximize resident functions.
  • Uses effective intervention techniques to address behavioral concerns.
  • Assists with transporting residents to activities.
  • Demonstrates effective communication techniques forresidentswith dementia.
• Provides non-resident care including but not limited to:
  • Wash wheelchairs.
  • Cleaning soiled utility areas.
  • Cleaning shower and whirlpool rooms.
  • Cleaning kitchen areasonthe nursing unit.
• Performs other duties assigned.
