Responsible for performing purchasing functions, developing internal and external relationships, and strategizing with the Purchasing Manager to optimize purchasing processes.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Collaborate daily with internal team members and external suppliers on requests for quotes, purchase orders, and delivery timing. This includes facilitating conference calls with suppliers on purchase order follow-up.
- Identify suppliers with raw material/processing capabilities based on established specifications; develop strong working relationships and hold suppliers accountable for delivery timing and other purchase order details.
- Issue purchase orders for internal parts and services, and external cliental in accordance with established procedures.
- Analyze purchasing processes on an ongoing basis; identify areas for improvement and implement changes, in conjunction with Purchasing Manager & Purchasing Director.
- Strategize with Purchasing Manager/ Purchasing Director, and cross-departmentally, on optimal supply chain process paths.
- Maintain purchasing information, files, and records such as supplier pricing guides, surcharge letters, and order acknowledgements.
- Manage all documentation to maintain approved supplier status per ISO and accounting guidelines.
- Occasional day travel is required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Purchasing or Supply Chain experience desired, preferably in the steel industry.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite programs, Internet applications, and database applications required.
