Overview
Apparel Trainer II is responsible for delivering hands‑on training and cross‑training to new and existing Apparel Sewing Machine Operators. This role supports skill development, quality assurance, and operational efficiency through structured instruction and mentorship.
Responsibilities- Provide individualized and group training on various sewing techniques and machine operations.
- Conduct new‑hire training sessions and ongoing skill development for current team members.
- Demonstrate proper alignment of fabric and materials using machine guides, templates, and notches.
- Instruct operators on threading machines, inserting bobbins, and setting up sewing equipment.
- Guide operators in identifying and reporting machine malfunctions or stitching defects.
- Train operators on using machines such as single/double needle sergers, hemmer, union special, bartack, automated equipment, seam seal, and hot and cold press.
- Operate all pre‑production equipment proficiently and train operators on pre‑production processes.
- Support quality control by teaching garment inspection, defect identification, and repair techniques.
- Report production, safety, and mechanical issues to supervisors or assessment specialists.
- Participate in production and service meetings as assigned.
- Promote and practice Lean Principles and 5S.
- Assist in maintaining ISO
9001 and Peckham QMS standards. - Foster a culturally inclusive environment and support ergonomic and safety programs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Department of Labor Master Craftsman certification.
- High Beginning English (Reading 197‑206 / Listening 192‑201).
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Strong communication and feedback skills, capable of reading and interpreting documents in English.
- Problem‑solving skills using standardized procedures.
- Team‑oriented with multitasking and prioritization abilities.
- Mentoring skills or experience.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Stand, sit, walk, and use hands for handling materials and operating sewing machines; lift or move up to 40 lbs frequently and up to 75 lbs occasionally; reach with hands and arms; thread needles; visually see stitches and distinguish colors; work in an environment with moderate noise level.
