Job Description Purpose

The Calhoun (CAL) Production Department is committed to providing high quality products and service that meet our customer’s expectations. The production area is the hub of our operations and relies upon the right balance of technology, teamwork and skilled employees to meet our customer needs. This position adds more steps to the foundation to continue building a solid career path within our organization.

As a member of the CAL Production Team, you will train packers, report to the Shift Supervisor, and work closely with various team members to achieve a cohesive unit.

Responsibilities
  • Perform changeovers and complete changeover setup form.
  • Arrange assistance for changeover.
  • Clean blenders and other equipment for material changes.
  • Pre‑blend and oversee the blending or mixing of resins off‑line as well as on‑line.
  • Complete paperwork for production sheet, labor log, scrap sheet, and daily functional check sheet, safety culture and SQC pack.
  • Record scrap, weigh it, and enter it into the MRP system.
  • Set all secondary equipment (printer, punches, venting, portable winders, etc.) and test functionality to assure proper set‑up and operation.
  • Watch for and react to stack light alerts.
  • Support and comply with safety and environmental guidelines.
  • Make machine adjustments as needed to maintain required product quality and/or as identified by Packer/Inspector.
  • Identify equipment shortfalls and complete maintenance request forms.
  • Follow the online schedule and strive to meet expected rates or production standards, noting the correct variance code in system.
  • Collect, weigh, and document all scrap; enter it in the system.
  • Ensure repro is being run into product at predetermined amounts.
  • Adjust Bill of Materials and make corrections.
  • Work a 12‑hour day, 4 days on and 4 days off a week (swung shift); weekend work is mandatory.
  • Maintain housekeeping throughout the production area and help relieve breaks for the team.
  • Perform and document 1‑hour quality checks.
  • Perform other related functions and duties as assigned or required.
Secondary Responsibilities
  • Continue to check run rates.
  • Perform quality checks front to back (resins, silos, computer info, blender settings, etc.).
  • Ensure tools are in proper location.
  • Ensure ancillary equipment (press, vents, V‑board, etc.) is in working condition.
  • Ensure the winder room is in proper order.
  • Cleans around extruders and blenders.
  • Obtain LOTO certification.
  • Obtain PIT certification.
  • Document any maintenance and safety concerns.
  • Ensure all BRC Food Safety Standards are followed.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 2–5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment with extrusion experience preferred.
  • Ability to adhere to Amcor’s Safety, Health, and Environmental Vision, Policy, and Standards.
  • Ability to read, write, and verify required forms and ensure quality products are produced.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work in warm, humid, and cool climates for 12 or more hours per day or night.
  • Ability to handle & resolve problems.
  • Ability to work overtime, holidays, weekends, days or nights, for 12 or more hours.
  • Ability to stand, sit, kneel, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and crawl for extended periods multiple times per day.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Must be punctual; on line at time.
  • Ability to read a ruler to 1/8”/tape measure and gauge caliper device.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Must follow on‑call rotation.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) which includes safety glasses, safety goggles, hearing protection, steel toe shoes/boots, face shield, gloves, and face mask.
