The Black Organizing program is Planned Parenthood’s national effort to work with the Black community on fights for reproductive health, sex education, and access to care. Beginning in 2019, Black Organizer organizers have worked to build sustainable, community-organizing teams in partnership with the Black community. Reporting directly to the Volunteer and Regional Field Manager, the Black Organizing Program (BOP) Organizer is primarily responsible for working in close coordination with Planned Parenthood’s national organizing team, engaging and growing a base of Black supporters, and building power for the reproductive health movement in the Black community.

Each organizer works directly with local and national Planned Parenthood teams to develop and execute campaign plans in their assigned area. Organizer will use a local campaign/initiative as a vehicle for deepening Black engagement at the local level. The BOP organizer will build, implement, and execute field organizing and education programs to achieve the goals of Planned Parenthood's education, advocacy and organizing initiatives including, but not limited to: education, work with elected officials, door-to-door canvassing, text banking, phone banking, relational organizing programs, digital organizing and education, outreach events, activist nights, volunteer training, grassroots lobbying, and legislative education effort, and special projects across large geographic regions.

• Demonstrate a commitment to race equity. Maintains current knowledge of PPMI’s work toward enhanced race equity standards, is held accountable to them and holds team members accountable.

• This position requires significant contact with the public and serves as the face of PPMI and PPAM in local communities.
• Actively participates in identifying tabling, volunteer recruitment, public speaking, and other visibility opportunities and works with supervisor to prioritize those opportunities.
• Responsible for directing activities of supporters and volunteers, volunteer engagement, and activities that support awareness and advocacy campaigns.
• Build, implement and execute initiatives designed to recruit and increase the participation Black supporters, volunteers, and activists in sexual and reproductive health advocacy.
• Maintain relationships with vendors as it relates to the purview of this position.
• Develop training and training materials related to the implementation of programs under the purview of this position.
• Interpret, apply, and recommend changes to departmental policies and procedures where purposeful.
• Maintain currency in effective and efficient outreach and organizing campaign tactics and techniques.
• Recruit, develop, and mobilize volunteers for sexual and reproductive healthcare through SCOTUS fights, legislative sessions, and elections.
• Work closely with the Government Relations Director to build relationships with and support Black elected officials and their communities.
• Supports the work of the External Affairs team to advance a pro-sexual and reproductive health policy agenda.
