An Automation Field Services Technician installs, commissions, and repairs complex automated industrial equipment and systems at customer sites. Core duties include diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults, troubleshooting PLCs and robotics, performing preventative maintenance, and training client staff on system operation.

Core Responsibilities
  • Installation and Commissioning: Assemble, wire, and test custom automation machinery at customer facilities. Support on-site startup, I/O checkout, and Factory or Site Acceptance Testing.
  • Troubleshooting and Diagnostics: Repair and diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control systems. Troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, servo drives, and industrial networks (e.g., Ethernet, Profinet).
  • Maintenance and Upgrades: Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on automated warehouse and manufacturing equipment. Implement system retrofits, fine adjustments, and process optimizations.
  • Customer Support and Training: Act as the primary technical point of contact. Provide training and technical guidance to customer maintenance and engineering teams.
  • Documentation and Compliance: Document work performed, complete field service reports, and update wiring schematics. Enforce safety protocols including LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) and JHA (Job Hazard Analysis).
Typical Requirements
  • Education & Experience: Associate's degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent military/vocational training) and 2 to 5+ years of hands‑on experience with industrial automation.

    Skills:

    Ability to read schematics and interpret mechanical drawings. Familiarity navigating software for PLC/Robotic interfaces (e.g., Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Fanuc).
  • Travel: Ability to travel frequently to customer sites (often 40% to 80% of the time), sometimes on short notice.
