Insulator

This role focuses on preparing, installing, and finishing insulation and waterproofing systems on commercial construction projects. You will handle extensive prep and cleanup work, remove excess insulation from structural components, and learn to install a variety of insulation products, including blown-in insulation, spray foam, and air vapor barriers. The position offers hands-on training, exposure to multiple construction trades, and clear opportunities to grow into more advanced roles within the organization.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare job sites for insulation and waterproofing by performing extensive prep and cleanup work.
  • Scrape and remove excess insulation from joists, trusses, and other structural elements to ensure clean, even finishes.
  • Install thermal insulation and spray foam insulation according to project specifications and safety standards.
  • Assist with the installation of air vapor barriers and related building envelope systems.
  • Use basic hand tools, such as hammers, drills, bolts, and other construction tools, to complete daily tasks.
  • Operate hoses and equipment connected to 55-gallon drums of spray foam insulation under supervision.
  • Follow all safety protocols, including the proper use of respirators and personal protective equipment, to avoid inhalation of materials.
  • Support carpentry, framing, and rough carpentry tasks as needed to prepare surfaces and structures for insulation.
  • Assist with related construction activities such as caulking, painting, drywall preparation, flooring prep, and tile prep when required.
  • Read or follow directions from blueprints, drawings, or instructions provided by supervisors to complete installations accurately.
  • Work collaboratively with a supervisor and crew of 3–4 team members to complete projects efficiently and on schedule.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and ensure tools, materials, and equipment are stored and handled properly.
  • Travel to various job sites, including hospitals, schools, universities, office buildings, and stadiums, as required.
  • Adhere to all commercial construction safety practices and report any hazards or issues to the supervisor promptly.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn new techniques, accept feedback, and take on increasing responsibility over time.
Essential Skills
  • At least 1+ years of construction experience in areas such as carpentry, concrete, insulation, or remediation work (excluding landscaping).
  • Valid driver's license to travel to and from job sites and the shop.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools, including hammers, drills, and other common construction tools.
  • Comfort working at different heights and on various elevated surfaces.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to ensure quality installations and clean work areas.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and consistently wear a respirator when required.
  • Capability to perform physical labor, including lifting, carrying materials, and working on active construction sites.
  • Willingness to learn insulation, spray foam, and air vapor barrier installation techniques through on-the-job training.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with carpentry, framing, and rough carpentry in commercial construction environments.
  • Experience in insulation work, including blown-in insulation, spray foam, or thermal insulation systems.
  • Familiarity with roofing, drywall, flooring, tile, and finish carpentry tasks.
  • Experience reading or working from blueprints and construction drawings.
  • Exposure to concrete work, caulking, painting, and piping installation.
  • Experience using power tools safely and effectively on construction sites.
  • Prior work on commercial construction projects such as hospitals, schools, universities, offices, or stadiums.
  • Interest in developing into lead roles such as foreman or superintendent over time.
  • Strong safety mindset and familiarity with commercial construction safety practices.
