Job Summary
The Family Engagement Coordinator is responsible for designing programs and activities to implement the Head Start Parent, Family and Community Engagement Framework. The Family Engagement Coordinator will oversee a team of Family Engagement Advocates at the Educare Flint and Cummings Great Expectations sites. Together, they will identify family needs, provide referrals and monitor progress. Family Engagement staff will build collaborative relationships with service providers in the community.
The Family Engagement Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Eligibility, Recruitment, Selection, Enrollment, and Attendance (ERSEA) Manager in planning and implementing all ERSEA activities in the Head Start program in order to stay in compliance with all applicable Head Start Performance Standards.
- Responsible for the implementation of the Head Start Parent, Family and Community Engagement Framework, including the Strengthening Families Protective Factors work with families.
- Assists the team of Family Engagement Advocates families in developing Family Partnership Goals, identifying family strengths and needs, providing follow up on goals and identifying necessary community resources.
- Maintains regular contact with families based on family needs (phone calls, group activities, home visits, and classroom visits) to promote partnerships and regular communication.
- Assists in planning and conducting parent meetings, Parent Policy Meetings, and parent volunteerism opportunities program wide.
- Provides support and resources to families as needed and documents in Child Plus database.
- Assists with transitions of child and family into next educational setting.
- Works with the Family Engagement team and parents to establish and maintain regular attendance for children in the program.
- Assists with planning and implementing recruitment, enrollment, and monitoring plans for the program.
- Assists in planning and facilitating parent orientations, parent meetings, parent education, home visits, and parent activities.
- Actively plans for and encourages parent participation in Parent Committee meetings, field trips, policy council, and classroom volunteering.
- Helps establish community partnerships that are mutually beneficial; advocates and collaborates with community agencies to support child, family, and agency outcomes.
- Maintains regular contact with children and families in the program.
- Maintains on-going contact with teaching staff in order to share relevant home information and gain information regarding child and family needs.
- Provides information relative to Head Start health and nutrition requirements; supports families in completing and following up on immunizations, physical, dental and nutrition screenings, and assists the Family Engagement team in data collection and analysis of program documents.
- Assists in the completion and documentation of health screenings.
- Accurately monitors and participates in the completion of on-going applications and enrollment in the Child Plus database.
- Documents and monitors follow-up needs, Family Partnership Goals, parent contacts, home visits, health, dental, nutrition, hearing, and vision information in Child Plus and in the children’s files to ensure compliance with all regulations in licensing, GSRP, and Head Start.
- Monitors American with Disabilities Act, enrollment, and vacancies to ensure compliance with all performance standards.
- Assists in providing reports for ERSEA, Family Engagement, Health, and Education as required.
Education: Bachelor’s degree required with a concentration in family life, child development, social work or related social science area preferred. Master’s degree preferred.
