Responsibilities

Operate heavy construction equipment used for demolition of identified structures on facility grounds and other locations throughout the City of Flint.

Operate equipment used in performing a variety of grading, filling, and compaction operations.

Operate an excavator to load, unload, or move materials, and operate a front‑end loader to transfer materials on demolition construction projects or special assignments.

Drive a tandem axle dump truck to transport equipment, materials, and supplies.

Assist the garage mechanic both in the field and in the garage with major repairs and overhauls of equipment.

Perform minor repairs on equipment as required.

Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Two (2) years of experience in the operation of heavy equipment including excavators, bulldozers, and backhoes.

Special Requirements

Possession and maintenance of a valid Michigan Driver's License at time of appointment.
Possession and maintenance of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class A, at the time of appointment.
Must obtain a CDL N (Tanker) endorsement within 90 days of hire.
Must obtain required Asbestos Awareness and MIOSHA safety training immediately upon hire.

Residency Requirement

Employees hired by the City must maintain residency within 20 miles of the nearest boundary of the City of Flint.
